Bottom line every driver out there has dealt with backing up. Anybody can drive forward but a real driver can back a trailer. It seems hard at first but like riding a bicycle it comes to you out of nowhere. Being a yard dog I am amazed how many drivers come to my lot that can't back up or take 20+ minutes to do it. And these aren't starter companies these are companies that require experience. Can't count the number of trucks that I just got annoyed they're in my way and jumped in their truck and backed them up. We all start in the same place. Learning from your mistakes makes the difference. When I started driving I realized I thought to much while backing up. So I just got in the habit of finding a good jam on Sirius radio and rocking out as I backed up. Got my mind off the backup and it worked

The biggest problem that these students face is the pressure that is inflicted before they get to start backing.

Bad teachers at the schools talk about failure rates, backing accidents, before the new driver has a chance to even begin drilling. Many teachers have lousy communication skills to begin with. The students get behind the wheel for backing drills with a "fear of failure" instead of being relaxed and ready to go. The good teachers at these schools do not have enough time to do "one on one" training with the drivers that are falling behind. Almost every driver that I have run across who failed........was due more to fear, and lack of confidence.

I have been driving way to long to be as bad at backing as I am. Don't worry you will get hired. It's always the easy ones that screw me up, want me to back straight into a dock with nothing around it? Yup ten pull ups later I am in. Want me to 90° blind side into a building? One shot everytime. LOL
