Any school pushing "accredited" training is just a ploy to make you think it is a better idea. More of a sales tactic.
Your best bet to secure a better job in the future is to not get into accidents/incidents/tickets/failed inspections. You will be golden. -
IME, as mentioned above keeping the record clean seems to be the #1 thing, closely followed by picking up and delivering on time as much as possible, and always letting the company know if the load is running late.
I'm assuming you mean going thru a Mega's school. Goodwill sent me to CDL school, the main advantage of which is that I wasn't obligated to a particular company. However, I worked my first year for a mega anyway and once I got hired it never came up where I went to school. The megas do suck in my experience however they can be great as far as getting experience, especially OTR experience. You gotta start somewhere.
Lastly, with big companies in general (not just in trucking) there's a fair amount of "the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing" and just arbitrary nonsense so be prepared for some of that going in.
And before I forget, most schools don't really teach you how to drive. It's all about getting you to the point that you can pass the test to get the CDL.Last edited: Jun 18, 2020
