I read somewhere, that trucking companies always know when your applying to other jobs because the company that you're applying for has to verify your information. Or something like that. But bottom line, your trucking company WILL know if you start applying to other jobs.
And there's no box to check "do not contact my current employer" like every other sector I've worked in.
That said, for you guys that've had to apply for new trucking jobs when you were already employed with somebody else, what happens during this time period? Do trucking companies usually start treating their employees bad? Giving them less miles or crappy loads, maybe more harassment?
Furthermore, what happens if it takes you a few months to find a job, do you just endure the bad treatment I guess?
Do companies start treating you bad when applying for other jobs?

It depends on the company. Some will ask you why are you wanting to leave, and is there anything they can do better, or some companies will be happy to see you leave deep down inside. Others may just ask you to give an advance notice of your departure, that way if the grass isn t greener, there s the opportunity to come back on good terms
It just depends on what kind of employee you are towards them.
Also, I know a few companies may tell you to go ahead and clean out your truck if you plan on leavingConcorde Thanks this. -
Like mentioned, it dep[ends on how good of a hand you have been and it also depends on the employer too. I have a friend that applied for another job, and his boss called him while he was under a load heading out and had him come back to fire him. lol, it is basically one case at a time deal. lol

They may bring you back to the terminal quick or send you out to the west coast more frequently

Mostly it depends on the size of the company.
If there is a separate person, or even team, that deal with verification then the person dispatching, well they don't really talk. Heck, they likely aren't even in the same building.
Now if it's a small 5 truck company, yea they will know and might ask or might be happy you are leaving. Just depends on the 'fit' -

Tell them its none of their #### business why ur leaving. Because its not. They have no right to know that, or any right to ask you. And is disresepctful as such to ask that question.

I left swift on good terms. I gave them my two week notice and worked it all the way thru. They gave me zero issues those last couple weeks. But then again i was one of the favorites. Its amazing how everyone likes you when you got a good attitude, dont complain and go to work to actually work.

Are you sure about the "do not contact" option? Every job I ever applied to had that option. Never had an issue.
buddyd157 Thanks this. -
