    I didn't catch that earlier.

Glad we drive around in vehicles with some serious ground clearance.

Especially since the only Canadian LEO's that carry a gun are RCMP. None of the border cops do.

I think I pretty much said that in my post. It's their ability to be able to "Articulate" their reasons for the "Reasonable Suspicion" that led or leads on up to the "Probable Cause"

I also stated an LE officer can go straight to "Probable Cause" based on certain circumstances.

The traffic stop IS relevant if the reason for the stop is a violation of MVL or something else the officer might have observed plain view, such as consumption of an alcoholic beverage or items to that effect. For instance, if the reason for my initial stop was for a headlight out on your vehicle and later on, I find 20 lbs of dope, and arrest you for the dope, part of the officers arrest affidavit has to be supported by a citation issued to the violator for the very same. Lots of new and rookie officers have often times forgot to do this and eventually watched their case fizzle and dismissed.

That logic can also fall victim to the "Exclusionary Rule" (Fruit of the Poisonous Tree) if if the tip came from someone like a disgruntled ex who had no other motive except to get even with the one on the other end and yes, there are consequences for the same. The magistrate or judge is going to want to know what grounds for the warrant or search came about. Most will even ask was there any connection between the defendant and the tipster and if so, was there any undue influence, coercion or plain hearsay involved and what was the extent of the relationship involved. Yeah, it does happen. But when it and if it ever does, get someone smart enough to represent you the right way who knows investigatory precedent and criminal law thoroughly.

If an informant's information is ever used, the officer must prove to both the judge/magistrate issuing the warrant (And the courts later on) that the information was and is reliable under the circumstances.

They didn't use to, and most still don't. According to Wiki (I could probably verify dates and locations on a .gov.ca website, but I don't care that much :) ), "The arming initiative began in 2007 and will cover most officers in Canada by 2016."

I was there in Sept/Oct time frame.

Coutts is in BC, not AB. It's just south of Lethbridge and north of Shelby MT on I15.

    Better look at your map.

Coutts, AB is the Canada portion of the Sweetgrass, Montana crossing.
