Since 9/11 some ports will inspect you but it's rare. Pretty much like the boss is a bad mood. I never had problems at scale houses, military bases or even a few prisons I've been to.
I once got a thorough search going into a port warehouse full of banana's. Like I'm a terrorist that's going to blow up a bunch of Chiquita's. I'll show them!....
Another time in NM a Mexican border patrol asked me if I was an American. I was about to say, "are you"?Meanwhile his German Shepherd started jumping all over my truck and they thought I had something. They started to come in my truck until they saw my little dog and she was coming in heat.
I've been in a few company shops with sticky fingers.scottied67 and NavigatorWife Thank this. -
last october when i moved to Tennessee, I rented a 26 foot Penske truck and a car dolly. it was $200 cheaper to take the truck back to Cookeville than drop it off in Crossville. on the way to return the truck , on the west bound side of I40 just west of Crossville they were doing inspections at the inspection area there. So to cover my ### i pull off in the area. they asked me the if im a mover( last thing i want to be) and what i have in the truck, show them my license and rental agreement then they tell me im good to go. As im leaving the inspection area at the end they had a truck stopped and had 2 cops going through the inside of the truck, in front of the truck was a squad car and 2 indian guys standing ther watching them search thier truck. so i have seen them search a truck just not mine

With tanker/hazmat I was searched many times, not by police though. Chemical refineries searched the truck inside, under the hood and with mirrors underneath the truck. Years ago, before the Fed's cracked down on them, the TN DOT was bad about ransacking the inside of trucks, going through food in a refrigerator, pulling the linen off the bunk, etc. and leaving a big mess. It was really bad if you worked for a TN based company that didn't make "re-election campaign contributions."

I never refuse a search, but again I have never been ask for one EXCEPT in a Military Base. I have nothing to hide and keep my truck neat. If there is a probable cause it's your lose, YOU should know better. Texas_ingon.... hit it right on.

I've been searched at Chemical Refineries before. They got into the truck, and were looking for pee bottles and other bodily fluid and also just being annoying but it was all good. Was prepared for it.

Had my truck searched twice, years ago. Being from Florida, it was thought all we hauled was dope. Georgia was set up on 95 near Savannah, all trucks enter rest area at the scale there. Saw Florida on my door, was told to pull over to the side. Went through my truck, put dog in the cab, found nothing. But I got kind of scared.Several days before I had " loaned " my truck to a friend who made a short, over-night run in it. Now he has been known to smoke left - handed cigarettes, and I was not sure what he had possibly left in my cab. All this did not occur to me until they put the dog in my cab, and I suddenly broke out in a cold sweat. He had left nothing, dog was happy, DOT said to go, and I was gone.

2. what if you have a dog and/or a team driver sleeping in the cab.. ?
3. also my understanding is if you have a safe in the cab they can not make you open that..
4. Do you sign anything with a company as a driver that says you must give permission for them to ransack your sleeper? -
The only time anything like this has happened to me was, in Sierra Blanca, Texas at the Border Patrol check station. Went something like this. Agent: Are you an American? Me: Yes sir. Agent: You have anyone with you? Me: No sir. Agent: Can I check your sleeper? Me: Yes Sir. Agent: (after checking said sleeper) Have a nice day. Me: Thank You, You too.

It says in the regs that it must be equipped with "Adequate bedclothing and blankets". Maybe the officer didn't consider a sleeping bag on top of the mattress as adequate?
