The Patriot Act ends this discussion. "They" can do what they feel when they fell because they want to. That act give them the authority and strips you of all your rights.

And do training companies not list a sleeping bag for trainees in the truck or is this just something that got started and everyone followed suit?

If you ever drive through kentucky those dot guys are always in a truck.I got stopped in alabama.trooper asked me to open my door and I asked why?He started yelling havent you ever had a inspection before? In which I replied oh yes this company has a safety rating over a 100 so I get alot of inspections.I then said although I may be nothing but a trucker Im still a US citizen.Do you have probable cause?with that being said my door didnt open but I do know they can use the excuse all in the name of safety.Checking to make sure you have adequate bedding etc.etc

I think a on board video camera would do very nicely in this case .. We will be driving teams so someone will almost always be asleep in the sleeper along with our dog..We will have nothing to hide, but I'm thinking if one of us is asleep on our 10 and they try to pull this crap a lawsuit may be in order..without reasonable probable cause..this is still America after all..

I used to deliver acid to nuclear power plants. Your truck was searched or you didn't get in, end of story.

Then you'd be placed OOS for a couple of days until they get that warrant. Cops don't need a warrant if they have probable cause. Open container in plain view or a K-9 hints of drugs are examples of probable cause that can bypass a warrant.

Having a CDL is automatically submitting to DOT and whatever they want.

Yeah but what is stopping them from claiming the k-9 "hinted" when he really didn't?

    "sorry, but no."

And then realize that you locked yourself out of the truck.

From what i have read here on the forum in various threads is that they can come into your truck and check to see if your bunk has sheets on it,( and it has to have white sheets) and they can look around, but they can't open up any cabinets or look in your suitcase or duffel bag unless they have your permission or they suspect you have something illegal.
