Do DOT hours of service apply when flying?

I am going to have to agree with WCP this time, (actually most every time come to think of it) while you do have the knowledge of the rules and regulations, and your ability to research and find the exact piece of information requested is actually very good. Your responses to the drivers on this forum (and other forums if you participate in others) is generally condescending. While the old stygma of "dumb truck driver" may on occasion still be true, todays truckers are very diverse in educational backgrounds. PHD, Masters, multiple Bachelors, retired pharmicists, retired funeral directors, firefighters, nurses, veterans of all branches, and the list goes on. Many of us have the equal educational background as you, many have a more far reaching background that you won't have. But we still treat each other as equals, we do on occasion joke about spelling, grammar, and ethnic issues, but we are joking with each other, not AT the other.

While your knowledge is often asked for, for guidance or clarification, it is always appreciated, especially when presented as 'psanderson' and 'dieselbear' present their information. With respect,to the person asking the question. Or if the topic at hand was not requested from them, they inject their opinion again with respect, not indignance. I highlighted your opening remarks in the quote, to me you were talking down to all drivers with your remarks. We get enough patronizing intonations from our safety departments, we don't need more here on our forum.

This forum is one of anonimity, we don't use our names since some of the things we say here can be used against us from our employers, or taken wrong by another driver. If the wronged driver really took offense, personal information could lead to problems. A few weeks back you posted the personal/business information of a driver on this forum, a driver and forum member most all here have the highest respect for. You have every legal right to look up any drivers background, however you do not have the right, as a public servant, to display the information of any individual in a public forum. By this action, you have invaded his privacy, and you should know the regs in your capacity for invasion of privacy.

As a driver and an O/O.....I am part of a group of people who if not for us....you wouldn't have the boots to walk on the street that is paved by trucks; You wouldn't have that badge to pin on that shirt brought to you by a truck.....
Yes sir...I'll acknowledge there's some dirt bags out there that ignore the regs...I'm not one of them.....I don't claim to know everything...That's why I carry my copy of the regs in my cab....Much like I carry a copy of the Constitution and and a copy of the Declaration Of Independence as well....

I don't care if you don't candy-coat your information here but have a little respect....


You have your job to do and do it professionally, as do I and all of the other drivers around here...


I'm out busting my a-z-z to make an honest dollar from shippers and receivers who don't give a #### about HOS or any other state and fed regs...Yet....everyone wants to blame the driver for every flipping thing....

If we're parked waiting for a load and some drunk hits us.....you know the routine...."Driver, Let's see your license, med card, registration, and your logbook...now!!!!!"
The drunk bast*d has more rights because "By God...you shouldn't have been there driver...It's your fault!!!"

btw... I carry a million plus cargo......I have always covered my a-z-z because I know from my experience in the construction industry, if there's a sign on the door....There's an SOB who's gonna sue.....

A couple of things here . You say we don't use our names here but that's exactly how Mike was able to find the info . A member foolishly put his real name out there for everyone on the internet to see . Anyone can get full info on any carrier they see on the street by going to Safer with the DOT number . There is also a search option there to enter the company name . The info isn't classified . Full info on the company is given including the name of the insurance company . Posting public information available to everyone from easily accessed public records is not a violation of privacy . Several times I have posted information from Safer on carriers members have inquired about . I had every right to do so . Funny how somebody can have violations show up at SaferSys and claim to have "a perfect record " .
As far as psanderson showing respect for members goes that wasn't always the case . He has received infractions and a suspension .
How can you say Mike's attitude is condescending on other forums "if he participates in them " ? If you don't know about the other forums how can you judge his responses there ? You say many have the same educational background as Mike . How do you know this ? Have you violated Mikes privacy by making inquiries to his background ?
Your statements just lack validity .

Mike has access to public and private info just like any LEO and that was the issue.....It's what he did with that info...
Look...I have a lot of respect for officers....most of the people meet them in less than desirable conditions...as in a traffic stop......
That being said....the reason why I took umbrage with him is because like my next door neighbor who is an "Injury out retirement" ( that btw is questionable...I know of several other LEO's who park their RV's at the same place I do...and they know him and his B.S......but that's another story) LEO, he used his "color of authority" unethically...period.....

My neighbor used that info to call the city's PD and code enforcement not just on my rigs....but also my pick-up and my fifth wheel trailer....the area that I live in used to have dairies and vineyards....in other words...Rural....

Yes, most of that info is public...but my neighbor also used my tax ID among other bits of info to harass me...something that a member of the general public would normally not have access to do.....
We were getting harassing phone calls on our home line and our cells.....

He even one time had some of friends (in uniform) come over to harass me about my dogs getting out and threatening to send me to jail if my dogs ever got out of my yard.....
So you can see why I don't appreciate the B.S.


You do know that I as citizen have a right to file a complaint for any harassment or unethical treatment by any Peace Officer.....


I also have LEOs in my family...I think I know a little about these things.....

 

You just don't get it . The info Mike displayed is available to anyone that goes to safersys.org . It isn't info restricted to LEO's . Go to that site , click company snapshot and you can use the carrier's name , DOT number , or MC number to access the info . There's a link to SafeStat on the safersys page for more info .
Go ahead and put your DOT number or company name in this search and see if there is any info Mike posted that isn't shown here .

We have the option to use ficticious names (monikers), or to use given names (RickG), in this case Ron...Mars Trucking, was ficticious, not the real name, not the actual business name..I searched for it, wasn't there...so how did Mike...MD find the info without all info clearly represented in this forum. Yes I agree we can search and find info on carriers, but not individual drivers unless we have 70% of the personal information available prior to searching...Ron with Mars with Trucking isn't enough to generate this info...as well as Rick with G isn't enough to get your personal info either...try and find out my info using "otherhalftw"...nothing there to even start the search.

If you posted personal information of another forum member, without his/her written authorization, you have violated his/her privacy rights, under federal law (no I am not looking them up to post the link) right now it falls under IMHO.

You are using past tense in your statement here, I was using present tense, in the months I have been a member here, psandersons posts have been accurate, in depth with complete explanations about the issue. Now he can get "sharp" AFTER a poster tries to regail on him or what he has said...usually when 'ps' finds against the drivers intention or action or thoughts. If 'ps' has had infractions and/or suspensions from this forum, he is human, he has emotions, and sometimes our emotions can lead us to say things we shouldn't (you and I are a good example recently). It appears, if 'ps' did get infractions/suspensions he learned his lesson and strives to not violate the rules of our forum.

If I go to McDonalds for lunch, do I act or talk differently when I go to Lawry's for dinner? No I do not...I am me, in any and all environments. My demeanor might change comparing an evening at the Met to an evening at UFC, that is the climate and type of activity, but my tone and structure of speech remains constant. There might be a few adjectives that come to play at UFC, that have no place at the Met, but I am aware of the differences. How do I know his background? You are right I am assuming using educated guesses from his sentence structure, his vocabulary, and his position...he has a college degree, he is educated just due to his position. Now with this I have VALIDATED all of my previous, and this post!

And with your question; "Have you violated Mike's privacy by making inquiries into his background?", you contradict your statement as pertaining to anybody can search anybodies background. It isn't what you do to garner information about another, it is what you do WITH the information you have received, as to whether or not you VIOLATE SOMEONES RIGHT TO PRIVACY!

How wrong you are that just because the information was removed by administration that the issue is forgotten. There are those of us who will certainly remember that you posted another member's information on a web site for everyone to see. I know I'll remember it and I'll remember it as being an act by an unprofessional person.

It's also not forgotten in the fact that that posting could easily have been copied andpasted to anyother site or to private computer records prior to it's removal.

The truth of the matter is your actions were wrong.

As for your calling WCP paranoid that's simply petty and rather foolish in these days of cyber stalkers, and hackers. Not to mention that you yourself said "Your license plates are on the tractor for the public to see. Your DOT number is there for the public to see. " If you notice there is a large difference between something being on the tractor for the public to see and your posting that information upon a website.

Would you wish for me to post your personal information in a newspaper? Or for your phone number to be listed on an infomercial on tv? I think not and that in effect is exactly what you did.

Now you may say " If you don’t like my post ignore them, that’s your right. " but the fact remains that when your posts include someone else's information that post involves them.

You Sir are hiding behind your position and your "expertise" to try and cover the fact that what you did is WRONG.

Now I have an exaggerated respect for LEO because my beloved husband was an LEO for over 20 years. You make me ashamed of LEOs.

From the sounds of it maybe there should be some new rules or changes to this forum so this type of info doesn't get used inappropriately
