You know, two good things about this can come from GPS Tracking.
The main thing the company can hopefully locate a lost/stolen truck.
But for the drivers?
Between the GPS function of Waze/Google Maps and it's ability to tell you of slowdowns and such, and more and more of traffic routing being taken away from the computer/phone and put into the cloud... With Google Streetview and it's knowledge of stop lights, plus the rhythms that seem to happen on city streets at certain hours of the day, if an appropriate semi safe route can be determined on the fly to route you around 30 blocks of almost definite stop lights just because you got caught behind an accident on the highway. I could live with that. Would I want them to know my EVERY waking moment? Not particularly, but, it's their (insert dollar figure here) investment.

Also, your last question was "So what is up with this? Do YOU want to be tracked?"
david123abc posted that it didn't bother him because it is their truck and the customers product. You responded by saying your point flew over his head at 447 mph. It sounded like a sarcastic reply to his answer when all he did was answer the question you asked.BrenYoda883 Thanks this. -

it was nothing but a plain old truck.
No electronics whatsoever.
Felt pretty good -
Tracking device doesn't bother me but rather it be with a small to med size carrier not mega.

My dispatcher only checks where I am when there's a problem with another load that they need to get covered. They'll look for the closest trucks, then decide if they should pull me from my currently assigned load to get the emergency load covered. It usually works out well for me, because they toss lots of incentive pay my way for the 'inconvenience'. Sometimes it gets me a layover in a nice hotel, and a better paying load for the next day.
AfterShock and NavigatorWife Thank this. -
TracyN and blairandgretchen Thank this. -
I wouldn't send a driver out in my truck, without the ability to determine where that truck is, and whether the (separately tracked) trailer is behind it or not. Now, I'm not gonna harass anybody, and unless the driver turns out to be a lying sack of sewage, I'm not going to be a control freak and watch the moving dot on the map either. I don't have time or inclination to micro manage...absolutely hate it done to me and thus won't do it to others. However, I'm also not going to shell out (say) $100K for a rig and have no idea where it is. Simple business economics, really.
Mind you I'm not talking any elog related devices since I have a distinct hatred of them, but a simple GPS pinger in the truck and in the trailer.blairandgretchen, Hammer166, Lepton1 and 2 others Thank this. -
Your not looking at this from the less thinking is less work crowd. We track and gps so you dont have to think. No complicated maps and such, hold that wheel and make that money....
