Do i have a bad starter or is it something else? Grinding noise when starting cold.

    huh? i just said i repaired it.... missing bolt on top obviously misaligned and/or the starter was junk

    I was posting when you posted this response. However drives my point home. We all use different descriptions of different noises etc, without looking at it ourselves it's sometimes hard to say. It appears you opened the hood and seen the problem. Next time you have a new or strange noise remember to look to see if you can see a problem before asking for help, may be something bigger than a starter with more than one bolt already out fixing to fall off
