Hey everyone, I just want to start by saying that this is a wonderful website and I've spent the last few days reading so many threads. This place is a gold mine of trucking info.
Anywho, I am looking at the possibility of starting the lifestyle that is OTR trucking. I am 24 years old. My driving record is very clean, no tickets or moving violation in the past 5 years. I did however get a DUI back in 2008. As well as a possession of marijuana charge.... Since then, I have cleaned up my act and am now a good clean hard working citizen
Do I have any chance of starting my career with a company such as Swift or will they automatically turn me down because of my misdemeanor past, or do you guys think I have a chance?
Do I have a chance to become a trucker?

Sure, you have a shot... misdemeanor charge is a lot differetn than a felony and the DUI is not a deal breaker. Some companies may want a five year span since it happened, but you never know if you don't ask.

Years ago I was in a military recruiters office and one of the recruiters was talking to a guy, that didn't qualify because of criminal history. During the conversation the guy mentioned having a brother that died. The recruiter told him to bring his brothers birth certificate & Social Security number to him and he whould sign him up in his brothers name. That's what he did. Can't do that now in the military. Just wonder if you could do it in trucking; using the name and Social Security number of a dead relative. Guess the hardest part would be the work history; probably a way around that also.

calling in dead would be an option on those days you want off
