I've been talking to an admissions adviser (salesman) from a local CDL school. His "pitch" made it sound as though all I needed to do was pass a "background check" and a drug screening and that he had a dozen companies that would pay for my schooling. After he took my credit card info for the $50 "background check" he says to me "oh, by the way, worst case scenario is that you'll need a co-signer". I was like "a co-signer for what?". He said "For the $6000 loan". I was shocked. I know darn well that I don't have good enough credit to get a $6000 loan, and I doubt that I could find a co-signer. It's strange that he never once said "credit check" or "loan" until he took my credit card info. Is this normal? If I get my Class A permit (by myself), and then go directly to a trucking company instead of dealing with the CDL school "middle men" will I need good credit or a co-signer to get my CDL and proper training?
Do I have to have good credit (or a co-signer) to get a CDL and proper trainingl?

are you referring to company paid cdl training like with swift? if so, the answer is no...they take the money out of your paychecks when you start driving with the mentor for 12 months, and then repay you back the money for the tuition over the 12 months following that

Always ask what the process is when seeing these guy/gals about training.
Get trained the right way, look for a school that will proper be up front and learn from others, doing it by yourself is not always the best thing. -
$6000??????
Is it that much now? You would think that after paying $6grand you would come out of a school, ready to work, none of that ride with a trainer stuff, "you're hired driver, knock em dead, go get em cowboy".
i am sending my little sis to school, she works for FedEx, to the local community college, and they're talking about $1190, of which she can get financial aid to cover half of that. I don't know why, but I always thought the schools cost $4000-4500 ( I think that's too much to for what you have to still go through on the other side of the schooling) -
I would think you would have the answers prior to giving out your credit card numbers to someone.
Hardlyevr Thanks this. -

If you go through one of the trucking companies to get your cdl then no you do not have to get a cosigner to get your cdl. You will just have to sign a contract saying you will work for them for a few years. If you go through a private trucking school then yes you probably will need one.

Troll? How you figure. You don't know what something costs, what's involved or how to go about doing it but you give out something as personal as your credit card number????
yea you'll fit in just nicely. Ill just sit back and wait for your "why am I getting screwed over thread". -
I'm just going to get my CDL myself and go from there. By the way, I didn't let him RUN my credit card. Once he disclosed the truht I told him that I changed my mind. Duh...
