I know a couple of drivers that live up here in Wadena and drive for a company in the Twin Cities. They pick up a load down there bring it back up here, drop it off and park at home for night, then do it al over in the morning.
Once he's done in the metro he spots the trailer and runs the rig to the shop for mait. By the time it's done in the shop, he's loaded and ready to head out. If it's major they just give him a temp. truck to drive.

It's rare that a company would MAKE you park the truck at their terminal. The nature of the business being what it is, it'd be unrealistic. They'd either have to have hundreds of terminals, or expect their OTR folks drive hundreds of miles for their off time. (or both) Such a co' would have a tough time keeping drivers. Policy varies, but generally they'll be o.k. with you driving 50-60 miles home in the truck.

Some companies require you to park at the terminal if you live within a certain distance, like 50 miles or so.
