If you are going to go anyplace and train; go to Prime or Stevens. A prime trainer told me if his does not move you still get paid $600 a week. If his truck moves only 2400 miles you get paid $600 a week.

I was at CR England 3/15/2010 for orientation in Mira Loma CA. Hear is the straight skinny from them. If you go to an outside trucking school you need to be refreshed by them. $100 deposit and balance over one year contract Total $1999+/-. One individual actually paid in full before arriving to school and they had no record of it. No one forked over for the full $2999 training program. They also said that if CR England trains you and you do not drive for them you will be reported to TSA.
I am an expirienced driver. I made it through the first smoke break. When I got back to class we 10 expirienced drivers were told would have to lease a truck. I was the first to leave. It cost me $40 for a cab back to the motel , half a tank of gas from home and back and $6 at Del Taco for dinner. They will not reimburse me for that. I have been violated by them. I am emotionally and financially devistated and may never forget this for as long as I live. Poor me.

Wow ElectricFence, sorry to hear about your situation. Hope all goes well from here on. Yup, theres a Mohave Community College here in Kingman, AZ, where SAGE trucking school provides the training for the trucking course. Looks like a real good option to look into.

I got my lincese from schnider I worked for them for 3 months then quit I didn't have to pay anything just couldn't drive a class a truck until the year was up so I got a local job driving a mixer truck and then delivered wine and liquor both made more than schnieder and was home everyday and off weekends. That was in 99 their contract may be different now not sure.

Schnider sounds like it's much different today from what other people here have said. Ether way any trucking company school is going to cost more because they want you to work it off. If you can go on your own and get a CDL you way ahead of the game. Just remember that just about all of the schools are there to get you a CDL and not teach you how to drive a truck. That will come when you go to work and then the quality of the training will depend on the trainer.

You can't expect and very good training evolution if the trainer has only 6 months driving experience himself. OR a driver trainer that doesn't know beans. There are some driver trainers that train for the money and are the lowest type of truck driver there is. So be watchful and do your homework. If you already know as much as the trainer just use the time to better your career and go on.
