We by scrap plastic & recycle it into either Repro or those little pellets. When we establish a continuous relationship with a customer, we supply our own cardboard boxes (Gaylord boxes) to put the product in as they generate the scrap, then we come back & pick up the scrap in our boxes.

When we transport empty boxes to the customer, they fold up flat, as do most cardboard boxes & we place 25 boxes to a pallet & will ship anywhere form about 50 to 250 boxes (2 - 10 pallets).

Tomorrow, I will be taking an empty trailer, with empty, folded up boxes on a pallet(s) to a customer in another state. I will drop this empty trailer & pick up a full trailer that we previously left for them to fill with scrap using our boxes that we provide them.

Do I need a BOL to transport the boxes to the customer?

I would think so. Your trailer is not empty you have pallets of cardboard in the trailer.

I'll take a stab at this, anything used/needed for the transportation of product, such as chains binders wood aren't product and therefore need no BOL. 20 pallets in a pallet rack under your trailer need no BOL, right ? Now, your description of empty boxes, I would think, will need some documentation. But I can't say for sure.

If not a bol--then you could probably get away with a Bill of Sale--since you are transporting YOUR own product...But you WILL need some sort of documentation

You're "laden" and involved in commerce.

I assume you would need something documenting minimally; what's in the box, to whom it belongs, and the points of origin and destination... but if it's not transported interstate, perhaps not, (but it still might come in handy crossing scales):

we sometimes move tubing which is our own from well-sites where they were used back to the racks in our yard, and yes we do need a BOL for that so just to cover your butt make one out under description put company property.
