Do I *NEED* a home as a new driver?

You're telling me that truck drivers never take hometime near vacation spots? Find a truck yard, rent a car. I don't know what the best ways to do it are, but I'm sure it's possible.

 

It is ''possible''.Just a bit harder...

What you may have to do is this..You will call a car rental place and have them come get you.They will bring you back to the car rental lot and you sign a car out.You then can drive back to your truck and get your stuff and away you go..This is one way to do it..

Being ''new'',you may not be able to drop your trailer and ''cruise around''.Years back everyone did this.Today it seems more and more companies are ''trapping'' drivers in a truck stop...This way they get ''free'' security gaurd for load.

It seems alot of drivers do not do much of anything.They sit in a truck stop all weekend and do NOTHING...Pretty sad actually...

 

*looks around house for the thousandth time* What's sad is that sitting around a truck stop would be a nice change of scenery at this point...*laughs*

As long as I have a place to buy a book, I can handle the downtime no matter where I end up. It's not the downtime that worries me, it's the logistical problems of not having a 'home' that concerned me...

 

I don't think they'll ever force you to go home.

 

I know CR England has rental cars in salt lake city just for this sort of thing, they would absolutely love for drivers to never go home....

I would assume that better companies have rental car deals or a shuttle bus from their terminal to town were you can get one.

 

Lol, I think we just had a misunderstanding. I figured this would be the way to do it. I know it's not simple. I'm not thinking I'll be able to hit disney world everytime I do a reset in Florida, just an occassional break if I want some Off time.

 

Listen to me young man you need an address with out one you will have a hard time getting Credit when you need it.And you will be needing credit sooner or later.So before you jump up and down and all a round you can stay as you are for a couple of years using a PO Box, Friends,Relatives Address & such But as soon as you find a stable company to work for then try & get your first down payment on a house YOUR HOUSE with out a House in your name you are a NO Body to Corporate America No Home Loans No Truck Loans and if they give you one your interest rate will bankrupt you. Even if you didn't like the idea of living in it RENT IT. & let the renter pay your mortgage for you before you know it you will have been an established super trucker that every one want to do business with.

 

That sounds like my Dad,back in the day....ROLMFAO....Once he said them words a back hand was coming...

 

Roger that, driver! I have a stable address to use during my first couple of years, then I'll buy a house and sprout all kinds of roots, get a local/regional route and all that...I was mostly asking about during my first two years on the road so that people could point out flaws and problems that I can be expecting...'preciate ya!

 

I think I actually shrank down in my seat when I read it...*laughs*
