I just got a Texas CDL without the trucking school route,
Before I start applying, do insurance companies require diplomas to insure new drivers?
Thanks
Do I need a Trucking School Diploma to get insured/hired?

I am only typing this because I need the extra characters.... NO
Probably with a mega carrier but there are those out there that will hire. I did it and not that long ago.TripleSix, KenworthGuyNH, Starboyjim and 1 other person Thank this. -
What type trucking job are you looking for?
Most companies insurance will require some type of formal training. You can beat the bushes and probably find something, but a company is at risk by hiring someone without formal training. That's hard, if not impossible, to explain in a lawsuit.Dreamboat Thanks this. -
just regular dry van, also can I go to CDL school even though I already have a valid trucking DL,
also do you know by a fact that the Megas require a diploma? Im in El Paso TX and I want trucking experience more than anything, do small -mid size companies have training programs
thanks a lot -
Its all a numbers game if you keep asking and keep applying for driving jobs sooner or later a company will hire your services

As far as I know, the megas require a diploma. You might find some small 4 or 5 truck operations that would hire you without the diploma.
Mesilla Valley Transportation in El Paso is dry van and has their own school. They may finance the tuition.
Yes, you can go to school even though you already have a CDL. In fact that's a big plus for you because most students haven't done that, so you're way ahead of the class.
Don't know if they hire that far south, but Earl Henderson Trucking is a 400 truck reefer outfit that will probably fast track you through their program since you already have a CDL. They have a minimum guaranteed $798.00 weekly paycheck. You can make much more than that, but that's the minimum you will make. -
There's some Texas based companies that will probably hire you and train you with their schooling.
FFE (Frozen Food Express)
Millis Transfer-dry van
MCT Transportation - I think they pay for school through C-1 in Dallas. C-1 will also train you for tankers with CTL Transportation. MCT and CTL are owned by Comcar in Auburndale, FL. You can contact C-1 in Dallas and ask about that.
You could work with one of these larger outfits for a year, then move to a smaller company. This way you at least have 12 months experience to show on your application plus the diploma.
Wherever you go you will need an original social security card and original birth certificate. Some companies won't accept a laminated social security card so if yours is laminated, get another one at the social security office.Last edited: Aug 27, 2015
