So I run intrastate only in tx I have my tx dot and us dot number. Plus 750,000 In insurance. First I was told by fmcsa that I didn't need one. Then I was told if I'm for hire I do. So I paid for it started messing with the boc-3. Called them again now they tell me I don't need it again if I'm only in my state. I'm so frustrated do I need it or not!???
Do I need an mc#??

Well, no offense meant, but if the bureaucrats cannot tell you, and they are the experts, why ask us ? They are the ones with the official answers. Ask for their decision in the form of a letter, and keep it handy.
Now, I do not believe you need an MC # for intrastate. I know for a fact I am not required to have one running INTRA-state here in Florida, but please ask Texas, and be able to prove what they tell you.
And yes, it is frustrating. Just document everything you are told, and go to hauling freight.sarsmassi Thanks this. -
Took 32 seconds to find this.

MC number search begins in 3... 2... 1.....NOW.

As long as you pick up and deliver in Texas and never cross the state line, you don't need a MC number. But, if you do cross the state line you will need a MC number. Keep in mind that it can take up to 6 weeks to get your MC number, should you decide to go interstate.

Thank you after they told me I needed one just to be in my state I already paid for it. Guess I will be looking into hauling out of state just to make my money back.

Did you read it? It says that those states require a DOT number, not a MC number. Two different animals -
Right... my mistake.
