Yes, that's why I wanted to get 2nd opinion. I will ask if they got dyno here if not I'm not far from freightliner dealership. Maybe I can get it done there. Do you know around how much it costs for dyno?

2nd shop I went to today the mechanic here also tell me engine sounds good but may need a rebuilt when he looked at blowby smoke.
I called another place for dyno which cost $300 plus tax I asked the guy if report will tell me I need a engine rebuilt or not lol he said it will show horse power, temperature and blowby but we can't tell you if need rebuilt.
Can somebody tell me how getting dyno test done will help me decide on rebuilt please?
ThanksRideandrepair Thanks this. -
Almost as if you are on a increasing steeper walking treadmill in front of a heart doctor. You have 10 minutes to either one of two things. Reach target heart rate at 160 or have a heart attack, either way we understand where you are at physically. If you made it to 160 throw you onto a table and start building a live 3D movie of everything inside your heart. Anything leaking, loose, lost, busted, bad etc will show up then.
If the big truck was a heart in the engine... a dyno is the stress test for it. Supposed to be anyhow.
All engines made usually have a table torque this much here, horses that much there and so on. If your engine survives the dyno tyme and comes out reasonably close to or at your factory chart etc no problems to speak of. Unless you wanna throw money to follow smoke.
Now if your rig is on the dyno and she's tired? That will come up fast.Doealex, Intothesunset, Rideandrepair and 1 other person Thank this. -
No paperwork = no rebuild
Honestly if you want to have an idea of the condition of your engine, start sampling your engine oil regularly. Use a decent sample test like Cat SOS or similar. That's going to allow you to see what's going on inside the engine and spot issues before they become expensive.
The other one to watch is oil pressure. Low oil pressure can, but not always, mean worn bearings. Note that the gauge on your dash is not 100% accurate so if the dash gauge appears to read low, have a shop hook a test gauge on to verify.
Best way to maximize engine life is to service it properly. Clean oil, air and fuel. Adjust the valves, jakes and injectors when recommended (plus you can see and inspect a ton of top end components with the valve cover off on a Series 60).Dino soar, tommymonza, Intothesunset and 5 others Thank this. -
Oils cheap unless you wanna spend Money I wouldn’t bother with inframe until there’s a real issue like antifreeze in oil or vice versa
