Only trucks I have driven were not for a company so obviously they did not have APU's but I am curious how everything is connected? Lots of cables going from inside the truck to the APU or are there types out outlets inside the bunk that stuff can be connected to and will run with the APU hooked up?
Do most trucking company have APU?

the apu has it's own supply for ac and heat. It charges the batteries and is connected to the inverter so you can run all your 110 stuff
No apu's are not essential but what is essential power steering air ride you decide I have no intention of going back to trucks I drove in 1975.
As for disturbing others with apu's well reefers run all the time , bull haulers stink, trucks without apu's idle all night this ain't your mama's tea party deal with it. I can't hear anything in my KW T700 must have pretty good insulation for a fiberglass shell -
My point on mentioning loud APU's was to make newbies aware some carriers (Star , Poly to mention a couple ) have old , cheap , outdated APU's that are very loud and newbies might want to ask drivers with carriers they are considering about the quality of APU's on their trucks .
I can see why I have over 3800 thanks and you have only 22 . Don't try to say because of the number of posts . Figure the percentage . 41% for me. 4% for you . -
would someone from the staff look at ricks constant attacks on me instead of just my responses to him
He isnt even correct in all his information my reefer can run cycle or constant constant seems to run all the time
3800 people with bad taste doesnt make them correct
millions followed Bin Laden tookloy Thanks this. -

APU's may not be considered essential but with the anti idle laws I think they should be.
Personally I consider it essential that I can maintain a comfortable temperature to sleep in. I know people survived when we didn't have a/c but times change. There is no reason for drivers to be sleeping in 'ovens'.EV87 Thanks this. -
Sorry. I got extra ear plugs if you want a pair. -
Anybody here have Thermo King TriPac-E (gel battery) APU systems? I've read mostly positive reviews, but I'm concerned with the long term wear and tear on them.
kloy Thanks this. -
You have a choice but many tie into the trucks cooling system. That helps keep the trucks coolant warm for them cold days. Easier starts. The electrical system is connected to the trucks batteries to keep them charged. The rest is tied into independent heat/and AC components which the blower will share the buck heat duct work. Some trucks will use independent diesel fired heat.
Some brands have generators attached to the engine for 110V power. Others without the generator will use a good sized inverter with it all. My last truck had a 2500W inverter. It's more than one needs. You just run short extension cords to everything.RickG Thanks this. -
Let the bickering stop please!!
