seriously haha. i think its only because of the enormous amount of money this thing cost, and the equally enormous amount of headaches its been. if someone goes and buys a $100k lexus (4 times the price of your everyday car) they dont expect to have a crap ton of issues off the dealer floor, know what i mean

The facts are that Rand manufactured a product that has a defect, "Each product will have a certain amount of product that may fail. Look at the car recalls all the time, but does that stop you from buying a car?" no, because the car manufacturers have identified a problem, and recall the car so the defect can be corrected, they don't give you a "refurbished" car, when I called Rand with my concerns over my two units that wont charge, their response was, "they weren't aware of any power charging issues" B******T!! if they listen to any input from you, I would think that since charging issues make up 75% of the problems on this forum you have informed someone about it.

This did not affect all 710's. But a small quanity. The firmware update will not hurt the 710 if it was not part of the issue.
Part of the issue on the physical side is the Torroid on the DC Cord. It does place some strain on the cord in a truck setting due to the amount of "bumping" it takes. I suggest you wrap the cord around the bracket a turn or two to help with the stress.
To help identify a power issue. Try the AC cord. If the TND still operates correctly then it is the DC cord. If the TND still has power issues both on AC/DC then it is the TND.

Hi Mark,
I also have the 710, I bought it about a year ago, I also purchased the traffic module about a week later. I thoroughly enjoyed the features of the 710 and had no problems till about 6 months, same as everybody else the DC connector felt loose and it would shut off or freeze or not turn on. I fiddled with it for a few days plugging it in or out and disconnecting the traffic module altogether, I found if I pulled out the DC cable just a tiny bit the little red light would illuminate and the unit would turn on. Since then it has worked on and off for the last few months till this week, the units power jack seems to be cheap hardware and probably is worn out. It did turn on again, froze and wouldn't turn off. I unplugged it and let the battery die, had done this the last few times this happened but now the unit won't go to navigation. It starts up and goes through the loading process and at the end a pop up window appears that says (Cannot start the navigation engine! Please try again.). Is it the end of the road for this unit?
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated, I love this units features from GPS to logs etc but I really would like something reliable or a good fix for this 710 unit.
