Those signs are deceptive.
I will talk from my butt and say most of them restrict/prohibit unmuffled engine brakes and don't apply to muffled applications.
But it's a rabbit hole going through state/county statutes to find out...
Do not use your Jake brake in our town,OR ELSE!!!

-
what a shame. we have truck drivers now complaining about jake brakes.
-
But mass generalizations are certainly not uncommon.
Take the time to read the entire thread more carefully and you'll find that no one is 'complaining' about jakes, but they are deriding the unnecessary use of UNMUFFLED jakes in the middle of town where you should be able to stop without the help of same.Studebaker Hawk and Deere hunter Thank this. -
Oh ok. Gotcha. ThanksHoneyBadger67 Thanks this.

I run in and out of gap pa. The top of gap hill has a no Jake brake sign. Nobody obeys it. I don’t obey it either
-
I wouldn't obey a no jakes sign at the top of a PA hill, either.Deere hunter and Chubby Fly Thank this.

If a semi cannot use its jake brake, then why are these ricer cars allowed to drive with a coffee can that emits probably close to 110+ decibels.. They make so much noise that my windows in my apt rattle and shake. Then forget about talking to someone while the little arrogant idiots show the world how loud their car can be, I am in the flight path of the C-17 Globe masters from McChord. There have been times that the c-17 is drowned out by these arrogant ricer cars. In light of the semis not being allowed to use their jake brake, Why on earth do these idiots allowed to drive around making more noise than a C-17. Those cars need to be banned for noise pollution. Same for those that are driving without a catalytic converters. Laws need to be enforced.

I will trade you for the freight trains that go buy about 3-4 times per night, The little minions in their ricer cars whose coffee cans can generate as much as 100+ decibels that rattle the windows in my home at ALL HOURS OF THE NIGHT, and are louder than a C-17 Globemaster which flies over my house enroute to the airbase not far away. Then we have the tire burnout and street racer crowd. Late at night they are racing up and down our street The tire burnout crowd like to pick a certain intersection and do burnouts for at least 10-15 minutes. And then you have the loud subwoofers. I keep thinking the circus is coming to town. They to rattle my windows and mess with my hearing due to a prior head injury, The cars with these subwoofers rattle and shake like they are falling apart. I wonder what is going through the mind of the driver. Probably nothing. They don't care worth an I-ODA. Ah the sounds of trucking. I miss that. jake break and all.
