If you have good mufflers, nobody will ever know if you use the Jake. Those ordinances are for the people with straight pipes rattling the windows when they hit the Jake.
Do not use your Jake brake in our town,OR ELSE!!!

I can get my train
And my cup and ball
And still have room for snacks. But they need to be something like skittles, or gum drops, or that kind of thing - never anything melted. I once put chocolate covered pretzels in there and oh boy did I get yelled at. -
Studebaker Hawk Thanks this.

Oh, you get these super truckers that have them on all the time thinking they are saving money on brakes but not realizing what they spend in added fuel because of them is WAY more than the cost of the brakes they are "saving"...
gentleroger Thanks this. -
I use my Jake every time I slow down, why not? I don’t rattle windows either, I’ve got mufflers and can Jake right past those signs and nobody even knows. -
Fuel use doesnt increase because you are using the jake, this is true.
Doesnt mean you arent burning more fuel. If your jake is on and your foot isnt on the gas, then the jake is slowing you down. These times, when it is better to just coast rather than to actively decelerate, is when you are wasting the fuel. You waste it to accelerate back to the speed you would have been at if you hadnt used the jake to begin with...
In other words it will slow you down further than you NEED to, and the part where you are wasting the fuel is to get back up to speed. More fuel effient (and cheaper in the long run) to just coast and use your brake as needed than to use the jake. It was made for downgrades. Use it for that... -
You're going to increase fuel consumption if you use ANY brakes when you don't need to slow down.
