He chose to work. He was out of work for way too long before he started trucking, he doesn't need any extra time off.

It's darn good money. He was off for Thanksgiving, and he used to be a chef so he isn't used to having holidays off. Last year he might have been off, but we catered so many meals leading up to and including Christmas that I think he is happy to be working this year.

myself. It's not easy and it's like a 24 hour job almost because your mind is always thinking about making sure everything is right. Plus it's hot in there. I can't stand working in that heat. Then you step into a zero degree cooler and contract pneumonia for pete's sake ! funny huh? kinda

I'm going to disagree. There maybe a handful, but judging from the lack of traffic on I 80 and the ghost town that a truck stop can be on a christmas day I'm thinking there aren't a whole lot that care that little about their drivers.
When I was OTR I kinda liked running the time frame from thanksgiving thru new years, as there are a lot of drivers (not just O/Os) that will take off that whole time, and parking was considerable easier to find. I usually got home for thanksgiving and then tried to take a week off Christmas to new yrs.

Most of them aren't driving - they're sitting at truck stops or rest areas doing nothing waiting for everything to open.

Mike worked yesterday and works tomorrow. They shut down for 36 hours and that's it and that's very normal around here.

I saw a ton of trucks on the road yesterday and I'm sure there will be tomorros but today I doubt I'll see a truck.
