Advice for someone who is over weight on drives by 1000? Gross is 78000, trailer is 10ft spread flatbed
Load is heading to lansing Michigan from ohio. I'm considering running us127, then picking up 96 the whole way.

    Yeah don't be overweight.

We have at least one enforcement officer who will put you OSS with an overweight load and he runs that area. I think they cloned him, was pulled over with 38,000 of scrap week ago, scaled right on the side of the road and he gave me all kinds of crap for being close to the limit on my steers (17k on 18k limit)

Oh and not to mention he is an *** about everything.

I think because of the concerted effort in this state to screw trucks because of the roads, there are more being pulled over and weights checked. Wayne county is bad around the 75/94 area, they've got one guy pulling people over to weigh them.

In my experience driving a tanker DOT is a lot more relaxed with weight as long as we aren't over gross. I recently ran a load that was 1000 lbs over on the drives when I crossed the scale. Liquid was surging forward when those axles hit the scale. Green light stayed on and I kept rolling. My gross was only 78500.

thats right around where my weights are. Im just barely 1000 over on my drives, but im driving a flatbed rather than a tanker

That makes two of us, since I've gotten a few myself.

Those don't even appear on court case searches.

I would certainly not have a cdl if overweight tickets counted against a driver. Things may have changed and i have a shoot load of points and not know it.

I work nights that way I don't have to deal with dot as much anyway. On day shift they pull our guys over every now and then for inspections.

I'm almost three years into trucking and I've never had a run in with DOT. Never even had an inspection, I'm trying to see how long this can go lol. I haul hazmat so I know I have targets on my back, if I go out of state or across scales I try to make sure I'm not overweight

Drivers are responsible for paying over weight tickets. If a company will pay them, than that's cool but it all boils down to the driver. No different than something wrong with the truck. If the company doesn't want to pay the fine, then it is on the driver. You're the one who chose to take the load even though you knew it was not legal.

And as someone said, if they do decide to pull you around and inspect you cause you were over weight, then that will get you CSA points if violations are found.

Well, it depends on whose name is on the citation. Some states, including Virginia if I'm not mistaken, issue overweight citations to the company.
