Sorry, just my normal attempts at derailing ridiculous threads.
Do Owner Ops actually take loads that are less than $3.00/mi?

And if an O/O is paying full price for fuel and tires that is entirely on them given the options available for discounts. -
When I started in March of 2013 I leased to a small carrier. Pulling a van. Didn’t know what I was doing, except that I wanted to be a owner operator and eventually pull a step deck. Wasn’t born with a silver spoon and this is how I had to start. Learned the hard way. Lots of trial and error, lots of if I take all these miles at $2 a mile that’s great, tons of learning every day I learned, every time I negotiated with a broker, every time I had a posted truck and was offered way more then I thought I’d ever make, even in slow times. I started to learn. Have a ever hauled a dirt cheap load, sure have, did I know any better, no. At this point of my life I don’t go anywhere for less then round trip money. At minimum I like to see $3 every mile ran, yearly average over that honestly. I will keep it parked if I don’t get it. Drives me nuts at times because I love trucking, I love providing for my family. I’ve learned if I sit and wait on good loads, less wear and tear, less time away from my family, my gross and net can exceed the guy taking cheap freight everyday to “ keep the wheels turning” . Not going to knock a guy with a good heart still learning. I’ve tried to educate any owner operator I could on this. Some guys have no choice, slim profits are better then nothing. Some flat out don’t care. They will haul bailed trash for peanuts to a landfill, some will even tarp it, me I’d never even consider hauling it, maybe if it was $3500 a load and they unloaded on a concrete slab that was clean. Some guys haul containers for $800 a day on a 16 hour day, some pull a dump trailer grossing 120,000lbs all day start at 2am grossing $2000 a day. Some are dirt poor living in a peice of junk truck, pooping in bags, eating Vienna sausage taking a $1.40 a mile on heavy lumber loads out of MA. Some have no over head and live in a trailer in the woods, $600 a day to them is amazing. Basically what I’m trying to say everyone is in a different ball game.

There are reports saying in 25 days, the nation is out of diesel.
That should make rates go up a little.
Just remember gentlemen. Many esteemed members said 2 years ago the cost of diesel was irrelevant.
More is better.Cleduskenworth, haycarter, JoeyJunk and 2 others Thank this.
