I got in during the boom. I didn't even know there was a boom going on. Paid $15,500 cash for my truck. I've hauled three loads less than $3/mi this year. Two on purpose, one on accident. (actual miles ended up being $2.99)

Current load is $1,200 @ $5.22 per mile, and I kinda screwed myself, because the other guy loading got $300 more than me. I'm not the world's greatest negotiator, but I get a little less dumb each load.

Some companies simply refuse to take loads under a certain rate per mile. Everyone should do this unless they absolutely cant do it.

Uh oh...don't start talking about price fixing or else you get the staff following you around to delete your posts while looking for a reason to give you the boot.

When you got a $200,000 truck and $100,000 trailer to pay you got to keep making those payments even if you take $2 a mile loads and don't pay yourself.

Unfortunately a lot of that must be going on out here.

I operate by $ per day (gross and net) and not by mile. I mean if you want to take the $12/mile loads that deliver down the road more power to you.

I’d like to add if you’re running load board freight the average you can probably manage is around $7250 gross, roughly $2.25/mile. This is still better than it was pre-boom by a good bit, just inflation and diesel is so much higher.

There’s also risk vs reward. I deliver Friday morning in LA area and still book a 5 stop pickup (nightmare traffic very risky) and it pays off enough to make my week. There’s also $6.5-8k loads I’ve seen with 20 stops that are all FCFS I thought about trying to do.

hope that 20 stops isn’t slot of driving for that…

i have 6 PO for 5 stops this week 559 loaded miles is a smidge over $4200

i dead head about 150 miles, do a couple picks for another 1k or so, run another 150ish Miles to the barn, unload, reload, and come back up
