For my part I stand corrected by my HR wife, she says a passport will surfice or two other forms of ID. Also the IRS does not regulate all hireing matters. A lot of new laws have been put in place to prevent the hiring of illegal aliens. How many time have we had to fill out the I 9 form.

And remember to not fold, mutilate or spindle it, joke here. And really they won't take one with lamination on it either.

    BrenYoda883 Thanks this.

Too bad It is MY card and I laminated it. Besides that Federal law dictates that your social security number can't be used for any thing other than payroll purposes.
    the
federal government is the biggest violator of their own law in this case. Oh well just another of my radical rants.

They can't require it for I-9 purposes. They can, however, require it for payroll purposes.

I was also referring to all the companies in the private sector that want it. In several cases I have just given them the last four and have never been called out on it. Probably because they know it is against the law.

Then that company violated federal law and should be reported as such. I've had a company told me they need it too, until I pointed out the bold statement on the form they just handed me. Companies do stupid things mainly because people let them.
