i was thinking about it and was wondering if freight was slow if they would pick up a dry non refridgerated load
do reefer carriers ever take dry loads?

sure, if it fits in the box, we take it. Heck, I had a load of scrap aluminum last month. I don't care what I put in there, it all pays the bills either way.

When I drove for Covenant back in 00-01 it seemed as if it was 50-50. For example, I took a load of electronics from TX to Cali, Picked up a load of produce and took it to ATL, GA. Back and forth...

Pallets, Leatherman tools, dry lentils... Yup. If it fits, It rolls.

I prefer the lettuce that I buy at the grocery store to come from a carrier that hauled a chemical Haz-mat load prior to hauling the lettuce load without getting a washout. It makes the lettuce tasty.
