The general consensus would be their wanta bee cops who couldn't get recruited and just love to look tough and boss people around.

Don't security guard companies have the same standards and hiring requirements as a police force?
God bless every American and their families! God bless the U.S.A.! -
Ok, I guess I used the wrong term, as I really didn't mean security guard.
Yes, I've seen some actual security guards carry. What I meant was the ticket counter guy (even if he had a security guard uniform) at the "toll booth" pulling a gun. That's what I meant about it getting deep.
My brother was a security guard. At the places he worked that had armed guards (and there was more than one guard) the armed ones were in visible/checkpoint type places. The guards that just worked the desk checking people in were not armed. Armed guards costs more (licenses, insurance and such), so they tend to only be used at the specific location needed. -
Not necessarily. I worked as a security guard at a fish packing plant over in Prospect Harbor. The only requirement was to not fall asleep and miss required rounds. So I brought a alarm clock and would catch a 40 minute nap between my rounds. There were no camers to watch, just a clock box that required some one to insert a key by a certain time to keep the insurance company happy.
As to police requirements? When I lived in California one of the requirements for all law enforcement personel was that they must spend a two year apprenticeship working as a security guard in a prison. Granted here in Maine they dont have that requirement. According to a local your required to attend a college course and have 60 college credits. The security group that works over at the mall your required to have a pulse and the ability to own and drive a personal vehicle. As the candidate is expected to go to different locations each week. -
