If you get on with Schneider Choice, you can bounce around as much as you wish, other than in and out of team operation - that's all or nothing with everyone I've ever heard of.

For example, sometimes it suits me to get between Michigan and Maryland often. I can do that easily, if not directly, with a triangle. When I don't need to do that, in good weather I'll run NE awhile because the rates are great there. But after it started sNOwing, I headed south and have been working Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Carolinas, Louisiana, Texas, and a little of Oklahoma and Virginia. I made one quick dash up to Michigan and back, missing the sNOw. Come April/May, I'll go back to doing Midwest/MidAtlantic/NE as it suits me. Maybe in the summer I'll make one run out west but probably not...had enough of that in the past and it is hard work getting out and back with dry van. But who knows...the point is, you can do whatever you want, run when you want, go home when you want, whatever. If you need to be home often, you can figure out a triangle to make it happen if there isn't some out and back that you like. You need a year or more of experience to get into Schneider Van Choice. If you don't have that yet, you could get started with 'em as a regional company driver, then switch in a year and dispatch yourself.

In my opinion, this is what happens....
Long haul drivers often have a problem doing the occasional local work. We get used to using our hours on the highway
Local/regional drivers are used to getting around town and know how to maximize driving time in cities.
When you are used to long haul, often you will burn thru hours if you do local work.
On the other hand, local drivers doing the occasional long haul run, often have a problem getting 1500+ miles down the road due to the monotony of the run.
All individuals vary, but that's what I've discovered over a 28 year career which includes dispatching, operations manager, and a driver...(in that order)

so if you want to bounce around to different type jobs sounds like you're going to have to get on a self dispatch and either get your own truck or work for someone leased on to a company like that and was on board to do that . its to much trouble for a company to switch like that ,there are exceptions but not many , it keeps me from getting bored to much but it does take a lot better planning and experience at different things helps before I was. leased to landstar I did ltl local and otr pedal routes, linehaul, regular otr, multistop deliveries from nursery and factory
