So trucking school starts this weekend and I've been given three companies interested. I sort of hastily jumped on with Stevens today and they have an orientation day for me in August when I finish with school here in Kansas City. But then I've been reading for the last couple hours here of how horrible they are and sounds like trhey screwed a lot of people out of money. But even so some of the other offers I've been given by companies like Werner, Swift and TMC it doesn't sound like they're much better to work for either. So what's up? Does every company a new guy cuts his teeth on just going to be plain horrible? But stick it out for 1-3 years and you can move onto a better company eventually? Is this something everyone has to go through when first starting out and it gets better if you stick with it?
Do they all just suck??

Yes exactly. Stick to it and you will get a much better job in a much better place.
I am in the same position as you right now because my 17 months of expierience is from 4 years ago since I joined the military for 4 years and now I have to start all over. Once I have that 1 year or so under my belt again and have the finances set aside to do so I am going O/O and getting on with either landstar or Mercer. -
LodiKen Thanks this.

I've taken into consideration that some of these people may just have a personal grudge against a company. But when you got a lot of other people jumping in and agreeing and calling those who might defend the group as being a "comapny man" it does make me think twice.
But regardless trucking is something I really want to do. And if that means having to deal with a lot of ######## along the way with whatever company I go with then I guess that will just be part of the game. And besides unless you know people and have good connections you're not going to start off with the dream job, got to start somewhere just hopefully I pick the lesser of the two evils! -
Drive for a year without ******* up and then you can go work somewhere else thats just as good and you wont have to live in a truck like all the OTR guys do for the rest of your days as a trucker.Keep your head up high and always think positive...and WATCH OUT!!!!!

Yes people like to complain about where they work thats for sure no matter the industry you are in. To be a good driver is not for everyone, just like not all companies are for everyone, I have herd bad about just about every company out there. Two people I went to school with I am talking high school. Drive for Swift and are happy. I have meet who were happy with JB Hunt Schneider the list goes on. depends who you talk to. Allot of good people on this forum. They give advice from there experiences and from what they have herd. And yes if you keep your drivers license clean and get some experience under your belt you will be much better of you have more choices that way. But who knows you may like the first company you go to. Only advise I will give you is stay away from leasing a truck I feel the cost is way to much. Plus you are new to driver see if you like it first. Good luck in your choice and welcome to the lifestyle.

I have to agree with the above, a company is what you make it. If you have a good adittude and work ethic you will be fine. I worked for corporate America for 20 yrs and heard nothing but whining from employees, and usually because they did something wrong or did not like to work. I think the trucking industry is the same.

I agree AZ. If somebody wants to really BI**H about there job come walk and I mean WALK in my shoes for the past 7 months of my life in Afghnistan as a Marine Grunt. All I gotta say is good luck making it back with all your limbs or atleast not getting shrapnel all over. Thats why I cant wait to get back into trucking. Its a lifestyle I loved before I joined and a lifestyle I cant wait to get back to in a couple months. Corprate America is made up of about 75% lazy spoiled overweight college brats who can and will complain about anything and everything for no reason. I understand I am young and all but people just need to make the best of there job, do there time, and get out or retire! Its that easy.
