I have never heard of any difficulties with being hired at UPSF. UPS parcel is extremely hard to get into,

Depending on where you are Estes will make you run wild till you get a bid. Estes West, where I worked, was G.I. Trucking. Estes bought them and kept it the same in Southern California anyway. We didn't run wild back then but I think you could if you wanted to.

I talked to a UPSF local driver one time and he told me they are under a lot of pressure. Sounded like they were trying to make them parcel drivers in an 18 wheeler!

A friend of mine runs OTR for Estes, well kind of OTR. He never goes that far west and only terminal to terminal, Runs a daycab and either gets a hotel every night or is stuck in a bunkhouse. He seems to like it, good money.

Same here especially since I moved back home. At least for the next two years till the gf Finish's school then I'd have to stop. I'm hoping UPSF does something like that in the next contract

I know of one local OTR company that does LTL. They basically group freight going to different parts of the country for a week or so... then eventually send one of their OTR drivers out that way hauling a 53 leaving on a Sunday afternoon to peddle it all week... then get a back haul to be home by the weekend. I used their service all the time for "non critical" LTL shipments and the rates were dirt cheap. Never could figure out how they made a profit doing it.

I also know Averitt does quite a bit of OTR LTL. I've seen them drive 300+ miles from one customer to another just to deliver a 100 lb skid of product that was certainly not critical.

I guess you could say I run OTR LTL. I run a day cab from Kingman Az to a few different destinations. I hit a hotel then head home after my 10 hrs rest. My trips are usually 355 miles to 561. Paid mileage and hourly. All terminal to terminal. Sometimes I may hit multiple terminals in a trip.
I average about 2600 miles and 6-10 hours a week.
