Most insurance companies are only looking 3 years back. They will be able to see it but it shouldn't affect you especially if it is only one ticket and five years ago at that. The reason for looking 3 years back is, if you get 2 speeding tickets in 3 years you are subject to a 30 day suspension the first time and 60 the second. A company could be leery to hire someone with a recent speeding ticket because, on the off chance that you get your second, it becomes an issue to deal with that isn't worth their time if it should happen in say the fist six months you are with them. Most states, after 5 years, it falls off and the only record that remains is on microfiche or some other storage device that can't be seen by insurance companies.

If you have a speeding ticket pending while you go to school and it shows up down the road, you could be subject to termination for lying. Once you are employed with a major carrier, if you recieve a ticket and it falls off your MVR, it may still be reported, and show up on a DAC report. This becomes another avenue to be caught in a lie.
If you decide to lie about what tickets and accidents you had in the last 10 years, you need to be able to verify what is listed on the DAC as well as what other companies have on file about you.
In the long run, once you are employed as a Professional driver it is best to keep your speed in check and and be honest about your license. There is nothing worse than showing up to an orientation and being dismissed because you were caught being untruthful. I have seen this happen at 3 seperate orientations.
In some instances if you get dismissed you now would have to explain why you were employed for only a day or a week if it takes that long to get caught, to the next company.
When first going to school the last thing you ever want to do is get caught in a lie. Some people should even consider taking a drug test on their own prior to getting a CDL to confirm being clean as this is another major issue. It becomes increasingly difficult to get a CDL and be hired as well when one gets hung up on these two issues.
Drugs and CDL's don't mix! But everyone here know that already.panhandlepat Thanks this. -
Thanx for all the advice guys, but now my situation has gotten a little more complicated. As I already mentioned I have a improperlane change and a seatbelt violation on my three year recorde. both where on a 4 wheeler not a Cmv. My problem is that I just found out that my liscence was suspended for a month since I apparently paid the seatbelt violation late.
I didn't know this until yestarday. So my question is how doesy chance for employment look, with a seatbelt violation, suspended liscencecand a improper lane change on my 3 year recorde. I am still in school but doing very well Im sure Ill get a good reference from my instructers as well as all former employers. I have stayed with both non driving companies that I have worked for over the last few years for atleast 2 years and I have no criminal background. So what is your honest opinion? -
This is a good question, I had the exact samething happen to me with a unaid seatbelt ticket.
