I disagree with this. The new company will have already hired you, if you do your homework right, by the time you quit your previous job. They're not going to call your previous employer and be like "Did he leave in a nice way?" No, they don't care. Truck driving jobs are a dime a dozen. If you work for a company that treats you that well, don't leave. But truck driving is a unique job in that you can give a 2 week notice, they can send you 2000 miles from home, and then say "Get out of the truck and leave the keys on the seat" leaving you stranded thousands of miles from home. So when you quit a truck driving job, you HAVE to make sure you are in control of the situation. I gave 2 weeks notice and had to leave the truck with the keys on the seat because the company failed to get me home in time to make the next orientation. Trucking companies treat drivers who quit like crap.
No trucking company I ever worked for asked me how I quit my previous job. They just told me the date to arrive for orientation and made sure I would be available on that date. There is nothing professional about a trucking company trying to screw you by keeping you out to ensure you miss your new job orientation. It happened on the next job, too. Left that truck with the keys on the seat as well. The company I worked for didn't care. They'd already hired me by the time I quit the previous job.
