Let me begin by saying I've never worked for Werner so I'm not familiar with their policies. However, posters who do have knowledge concerning Werner's policies have chimed in with answers to your question about road testing at orientation, a subject that you seen to be overly concerned about, --- perhaps with good reason. You also mentioned that you graduated from Big truck truck drivin' school almost a year ago and haven't driven a Big truck since. For someone with years of experience that amount of time wouldn't be as serious as for someone who has no experience at all. I'm surprised that Werner doesn't think you'll need a refresher course. What do you think? Do you feel confident enough with whatever you're able to retain from school to meet the requirements of the trainer who's job is to polish skills and demonstrate how Werner prefers things be done? Driver trainers aren't there to teach students how to drive, --- that's what Big truck truck drivin' school was for. Is it possible that you'll get through orientation only to fail to meet the minimum required drivin' skills? Rejected? If you think that's a possibility, would Werner offer you a refresher course? If not, what would Werner do? You might want to ask now rather than find out later. Ya reckon.
I did orientation in Omaha in 2012. Road test 2nd day of orientation and another after the 275 hour training. Might be different now, no idea.
The first company I was with has there own CDL school and I have seen students go there, pass the DMV road test to get CDL, pass the schools final road test, go out with trainer for six weeks, and fail the final road test to upgrade to their own truck.
My shifting and everything is average for someone with 0 experience, it's just that not driving a truck for 9 months has hampered my backing abilities I'm sure. I didn't start getting the 45 and 90 docks down consistently until the very end of my school ( 7 weeks long ). You make it sound like I'm choosing Werner because I can't even keep the truck going in a straight line without running into the ditch. I'm no where near that bad. You see posts all the time of trainers getting students who can't shift even decently, and who still stall frequently, I'm no where near that.
No kiddin'?:smt103 You can hear what I sound like?:smt107 Hmmmmmmmm --------- Well, ......................... :smt108 Always good to know if folks are hearin' what I'm writin' that they're readin', when they do, --- or don't, --- don't really matter. Then thinkin' 'bout it all, ..... all thangs considered ............. :smt017 ~ ~ ~ ~ Can y'all hear me now?! ' ' ' Or, ...... are some folks, .... ..... ..... ............ just readin' what they're thinkin' that I'm writin' here, ..... :smt024 ..... ....... and hear it not that I don't,:smt108 ........... when they do.:smt102 . Anyway, ..................:smt069 ThanX for the report. :smt039 Give yourself the benefit of doubt. You might even be better now than you were the last time you drove a Big truck.:smt045 We see/read posts all the time of students gettin' Big truck truck drivin' trainers who expect a trainee to be able shift decently and not stall at all. Many of us have heard Another Somebody Done Me Wrong, Song , .... Sung Blue .....so many times we've forgotten the words. Best of luck, Dc16vpd, (how do you pronounce that?) with whatever you decide. Please, .... keep us all posted?
You seem to take stuff too literal AfterShock. I understand that being out of school for 9 months without getting any experience has hampered my chance with some companies ( Roehl, Melton ) but I know either way, I wasn't going to get a top tier company anyways. Werner has offered me decent pay, pretty much on par with every other " starter company " but a little more than Swift and CR England. They've offered me the NE Regional and said I can expect to be weekly, I'll find that out for sure when I start. The only set of abilities of mine that I'm not all that confident in at the moment is backing into docks, but everyone tells me that comes with time and practice. I'm leaving for orientation tomorrow afternoon for Allentown PA ( orientation on wed ), and yes I'll keep everyone updated on how things go.
I just finished orientation with Werner on Tuesday 12/6. Being a student, I did not have to conduct a road test, only the Q drivers (qualified) had to. Hope that helps some
