Do you do the pull test on slack adjusters every time you get a new trailer?

Maybe he thought the 'no more than 1" pull' meant 1 foot?

Look at the bright side. You got two free bungee cords. :)

    Bungee cords are reusable, though...:biggrin_25523:

I've been known to make some "creative" repairs to get myself to a shop. Personally, though, I think I would have just removed the chamber altogether and blocked the lines off....easier to explain if stopped and less likely to have parts falling off going down the road.

Exactly......I carry clamps so in case I blow a pancake I can just clamp off the air line til it gets back to the shop. Better than everyone hearing it dump air.

There's a possibility that could have happened after the last driver dropped it off. You'd be suprised after looking at how yard dogs treat dropped trailers.

I kind of hate yard dogs to be honest. They seem to always be in ****** moods and will make it a point to let you know that this is their yard and that YOU ARE IN THE WAY no matter what. Just today actually I was sitting in the very corner of a HUGE yard that had 40 acres worth of empty spaces doing paperwork for about 10 minutes and the yard dog comes over and parks 5 feet in front of my tractor just sitting there. :biggrin_25510:

Maybe you were in his usual napping spot? I hates it when someone steals my napping spots!:biggrin_25510::biggrin_2559:

A few times I have observed yard dogs get into a accident and not even bother stopping to report it. For this reason I bought a digital camera. When I pick up a new trailer, I do a walk-around and record a video of the trailers condition before I hook up to it. I do the same when I drop a trailer.

The trailer I have now is a Intermodal, which has more scratches, dings, and dents than I care to shake a stick at.

    On a side note:

It would make sense that this happened with a yard dog. Rather than reporting the accident the yard dog bungied the chamber onto the frame, hoping the driver/sucker that picked up the trailer next would miss it.

Sort of doubt that. Most of the yard dogs I see never get out of the truck past that little cat walk to hook up the air line. Crawl under it to bungie up a brake chamber?...I doubt it. That was an emergency roadside repair that should have only been used to get to the closest shop if even then. The driver got the delivery done and was on to the next load. If he were paid hourly to get the trailer repaired he might have done so. Then again if it was at a terminal maybe he wrote it up and someone else dropped the ball.

I would have called road service and collected some hourly pay, but I am just a steering wheel holder and wouldn't be spending my money.
