I enjoy my job. I have a class a, but drive a class b truck. It is local, good hours, decent pay. I recommend getting hazmat, it opens more doors and can get you more pay.

    Lepton1 and JReding Thank this.

If I do really start looking, I will probably get hazmat. Main reason I got the cdl was because I could get it easily, and it gives me options.

    JReding and ajohnson Thank this.

Always a good idea to maintain all endorsements, you never know when you'll need them. You don't have to just be a tanker driver or work for a chemical company to have your hazmat. In fact, I would wager that more than half of trucking companies haul hazmat at one time or another. Most if not all LTL carriers require it.

What type of work are you doing now? Is it the company has worn you out, or is it driving as a whole?

Driving yes, missing my kids grow up no. It's way to micromanaged for me. When I recover from a screwed up rotator cuff I will be cleaning out my truck. Next time it leaves the yard I will not be the one driving it. I will keep up my CDL and endorsements though.

It's a hard life and I can only put up with OTR for no more than 4 months at a time. I then have to quit and be the family full time for at least that much time, then I do it all over again. Living out of the truck is not easy, especially when companies like Swift are always on my ### about idling just to stay comfortable.
