So far I enjoy my job, I did it part-time for 11 years and just started driving full-time about 5 months ago for a local farming operation. We store everything during harvest and its enough to keep 6 other trucks running year around, plus we haul for some elevators as well. I'm home every night, usually work 600a to 4p 5 days a week, but then during harvest its usually 16 to 18 hour days, but so far really enjoying it.

I love my local job now; all I basically do is drive between Phoenix and Tucson so the weather is usually always perfect, home every day ,and I will make $75k my first year

I actually liked driving OTR but the bad weather, disrespect from other drivers/shippers/receivers and nasty truck stops drove me crazy.

At this point I am thinking, to just keep my ears and eyes open and see what pops up. The only way imcan see making a move is if the price is right, and it gets me home at night

I enjoy my job now... I did OTR for a few years and just couldn't hack the lift style change... I even moved to a company doing 2 over night U.S runs (Mon-Tues, Wed-Thurs, Friday local).. Running OTR was sometimes exciting going to different places but the cons for be just was too much to bare..

I ended up going local and I am home everyday.. I am much happier where I am and enjoy going to work everyday.. I am also a heavy equipment operator (I load myself) so I am doing both things that I have always wanted to do (trucker and heavy equipment operator)..

I can see myself retiring with my company and retire as a trucker.. Although I do have prospects for management as it pays more and opens more doors for my future.. Lots of room to move in my company and if I can get an opportunity to bigger and better things then of course I will get out of the truck..

btw I have been doing this for 13years so not new...

It is the driving as a whole. I appreciate the great outdoors. I run my own truck.

Depends where you work; in my case, as far as I'm concerned, it's "do so little for so much". True, I may never be rich, but I get paid pretty well for what I do, and can live comfortably.

When I was with a common carrier running the northeast almost every week and being micromanaged by morons in a plastic stripped down fleet spec'd truck it was just something I had to deal with to get to the end game and where I am now......even though I enjoyed the driving part of it.

Now I'm with a private fleet with almost no turnover and enjoy it much more. Nice truck, better and more predictable lanes, rarely see the northeast anymore, home every weekend and close to six figures.

Life is good and it was worth the first 3 years of bs to get where I am now.

I don't love it but I don't mind it either. I have been doing it a long time so it's easy for me. At my stage of the game the money is good and the job is easy with no BS but when I retire I wont miss any of it.
