Exactly. When politicians write laws forcing politically appointed regulators to look into possible mandates on our industry, it makes the issue a political one.

That's not the thread topic. It's How do YOU feel? We have other threads on the very same topic on how THEY feel.

How do you suggest they do that? When they all go on strike? :)

There is no reason for a discussion of FMCSA regulations to turn into arguments over constitutional rights and Big Brother. A moderator has cautioned the participants about keeping the thread on-topic, we're all adults here and it shouldn't have to be said multiple times. If anyone has an issue with the site policies, please PM a moderator directly, do not discuss it in this thread and derail it further.

This thread is really out of hand. Some of yall really need to calm down. I don't know if it's due to the elections that alot of people are on edge but this ridiculous and getting childish. It's one thing to be passionate it's another to resort to sniping, name-calling and nastiness to make points. Not to mention it's frustrating that topics cant be discussed without someone wanting to bring up the evil P word (Politics):banghead:. Everyone here is a adult please act like one!

If i drive 10 hours to a shipper, get held up for 6 hours unloading, i should have the "human right" to drive within a short distance, park somewhere safe, get a good meal and shower, and take my 10 hr break. Notice at truckstops the guy in line who smells like god knows what because he has not taken a shower in 4 days? Most of the time he gets into a major carrier truck with E-logs. He gets stuck 2 miles from a truckstop for a shower because he no longer has a basic human right to shower because he runs out time.

Do people think driving a couple miles down the road for a safe place to park and shower after a shipper holds you up is cheating? If you do, i just don't get it. Have E-logs. I like basic human rights. This is what happens to me alot of times. I run legal. I have no reason to drive 15 hours a day. E-logs take some very basic things away from drivers. A officer should be able to figure out if a driver is just looking for a safe place to park, or cheatin HOS without EOBR'S, but we all know what happens most of the time in that case.

I feel it should be optional.

Personally if I sign on with a carrier that uses them then I'll use them.

If I was an independent, the only black box in my truck would be my Xbox 360 haha.

I never stated whether your opinion counted, or not. I was trying to determine why your opinion would still be relevant, as you are not personally involved with E-logs. Meltom doesn't drive, but his opinion is relevant as he is on the compliance side of a carrier, so he is effected by this.
Now that you have stated that your husband still drives, I can see the relevance.
If this discussion was about McDonalds changing where they buy their beef, would you think a vegan's opinion would be relevant to the discussion?
