This is what some people always forget. Unless your grossing 80k on a 8-axle Michigan sled, your brakes aren't going to stop fast enough to move anything.

No amount of chains/straps/blocks are going to stop a 60' beam, a load of pipe or a coil if you slam into something very hard.:biggrin_2559::biggrin_2559:

You know though that there is someone that will say "well if you put friction mats under your coil" or "if you belly wrap that load of pipe" or "if he would have put 45 straps on that slick unit of southern yellow pine" it would have held. Nevermind the fact that it would just shear the pin off the trailer.:biggrin_2559:

Report me I'm not putting more than 6 straps on a 40'' tubing load or two chains on a 20k coil if that makes me wrong so be it it driving habits have alotto do with your securement in my opinion I see people over due everything out here which us your choice but if I'm meeting the standard don't judge me

Those were horrible. We had a bunch of them at one time. To anyone who's never worked on one, an example of Ford's stupidity was they put 2 firewalls on the cab. Doesn't sound like a big deal except they mounted the brake valve in between the 2 so WHEN the valve went bad you had to torch the outer firewall. And if you didn't set the entire truck on fire doing it you ALWAYS had to replace all the air lines you melted in the process. Oh and the doors ALWAYS rusted out. If you had to bet on the sun coming up tomorrow or the bottom of the Ford door falling off, I'd put all your money on the door.:biggrin_2559:

Oh and the old COE versions should have came with a warning. If you were to park your truck in your driveway and you look outside later and the lights are on and you know you turned them off when you parked it..........call the fire department. We had one of our drivers park one in a truckstop and went inside to eat. Always a bad day when someone walks up to you and says "Did you drive a Ford cabover with fancy blue stripes? Because if so it's on fire":biggrin_25523:

Any chance this trailer was fitted with container corner locks?
Back in the early 80's my partners and I spent money
on true custom trailer builds. We had every conceivable advantage built into our trailers (with weight in mind) to minimize load/ unload/ drop time. We had corner locks built into the side rails of our trailers that when unused were flush with the bed, when needed whether a 20ft or 40ft or two 20ft cans set on 45ft trailers the locks were raised, turned to lock position and secured. On our first run through state scales we were stopped, told we were shut down, then when we produced letters from the trailer mfr and said state DOT and US DOT of tie down compliance (we were looked upon in a different light), photos were taken for future reference by each scale personnel and we were not bothered ever again. We were based out of Southern California traveling all eleven western states. We covered all our bases as to not be bothered or caught doing something wrong, thus we made money hand over fist. I always shook my head at the guys who would X 2 chains through the eye and a 4" strap over the top of a 50k coil. These guys are nuts and a danger to society!
