Do you guys do this? Insufficient load securement

i see allot of shipper check your straps n' chains and take pics of the load before you leave. I know KEEN Video tapes everything before it leaves the yard, the guard will walk around your truck with a video camera

Is it possible that he had the locks for it the work with the pin pockets. Feed the lock thru the bottom of the pin pocket and twist to secure the seacan????

 

I have loaded at the Keen yards there for years and years, never padded a single tie down to date. Never had a single complaint neither...
That pin is rated for way over the 7400lbs I am putting on it BTW.

allwas secure the load for the worst ,,case and point totel waight truck trailer and load was 58500 3 peices on, 3 4" straps over each peice over done ? (dec 5th 2008 3:05 am I-25 nb mm 134 CO )south bound car came over to north bound side head on into truck ,,,a rather sudden stop, load only shifted 1&1/2 inches forward,,,also note Allways keep your log book up Allway know if you have an out (I did not have an out) about 8 hours later the investagtion was done with me (yes she was dead on impact)
another point listen to those crusty old gray haired flatbedders I don't remember the names of all the older one's that gave me advise but I am glad I took there advice I am still alive becouse I did ,,,,,,that was the last run for truck 68 frame bent air lines took out oil lines took out front end wasted (hood and front axle),,,,heck of a way to get a down payment on a nicer newer truck works but I don't recamend it , my next truck was a What do you meen you did'nt see me Red , Mack with a kamakizie car catcher (they call em moose guards but I know what they Really are),,,,,

Here is my philosophy, I want enough securement on whatever is back there in the event of a roll over it stays on the trailer where I put it. Like this dozer I have on now, there is seven chains and eight binders. It only weighs 45,000, is it over done? According to the rules, yes. I could do the minimum and only use three chains and four binders. But if I get in a nasty accident there ain't no way that dozer will stay on the trailer with the minimum.

 

don't forget to check the wll of your binders. my 3/8-inch chain is rated at 6600 pounds, but all my snap binders are rated for only 5400.

so any 3/8-inch chain i use on my truck is good only for the lower number, the weakest link.

 

Thats the best philosophy right there. I just had a 30000 lb dynapac roller with 5 chains and 6 binders on it with an 8000 lb "trailer" behind it with 2 chains and 4 binders on it. Nothing moved and thats the way I like it.

Not the best way to git r done but I have used that method on a rubber tired 6000 lb tractor to get my snap binders nice and tight. I have the straps pulling inward (towards each other) and then winch them down so it gets the squeeze out of the tires and wont slide on the deck. Then hook chains and snap binders up, works pretty good.
