I have to say I liked it as for securing loads goes. I did have every strap and chain on a load once all tight and looked secured but in a rookie mistake didn't realize that not a single strap touched a 8in pipe in the center of the load mad it 600 miles before I needed to test my brakes and when I did I thought I was dead because that pipe let loose and hit the back of the truck.

That's another point I would like to make accidents do happen to the best of us I don't have 600 years experience like some might but even they will tell u accidents do happen fact of life that was only my second accident in ten years of driving but I don't set myself up for them either.

If people would lose the attitude and start learning from others it might be a happier safer world

I just started with this company 6 weeks ago. The only time I pull a flatbed is to load it across the street and bring it to the yard for a different driver to deliver the next day.

This time I pulled two loads. But I didn't like the way the hook pulled away from the bar after I tightened the spool. My company says this is the way it's always been done and there hasn't been any problems.

That hook isn't going anywhere..looks like it could jump..but it will stay in place.

You should put the hook to the outside of the trailer so the strap comes up between the rail and the trailer.

put the hook another 180 around and go across the street knowing it will not come loose. Sure beats wondering....

So these guys are "idiots" because you assume the loads weren't legal by looking?

Before I educate you on what the law is please inform all of us how you would have chained 2 suicide coils. And remember you didn't say what the weights were but I can assume it wasn't a permit load so let's say it was 2-20k coils.
I would love to know your idea of what a "big" coil is. You can't judge a coils weight by looking at it. The thicker the steel the lighter the coil. Here's one thats just over .75" thick and weighs less than 40k.

It's going to wear the strap in that area too.

Edit: take a look at someones straps that has used them like this for a bit. "out of sight out of mind"
