Do you guys ever block traffic from a lane that is about to end?

I have done that many times. Traffic stop, and go. Cars speed, slamming on brakes. Pita.
Get another vehicle set speed. Let traffic clear a quarter mile, then brake lights. About time we get there, they are moving again. Constant 15, 20 mph much more relaxing then speed up to 50, then brake hard, stop, wait, start over…

Imagine a world where we all worked together on the road. From what I have seen Europe is the closest example of this watch what they do when there is an ambulance coming up they all get out of the way and create a path for them. This is just not possible in USA, nobody here knows how to zipper merge. We would have a lot less traffic if people would zipper merge immediately when a lane ends but everyone wants to cut in line here.

This right here is the best way to handle a lane closure ahead. Trying to hold back traffic just adds to the slow down, as does merging too soon. It is a shame that the public doesn't seem to understand this, even worse that professional drivers will not use the zipper merge either.

If people merge too early pretty soon you have a two mile slow down in one lane instead of a one mile slow down in each lane.

I think it was two years ago South Dakota had a big project on I-90 west of Rapid City. They didn’t specify what lane was closed. Signage just said Lane Closed Ahead, Stay in Lane to Merge Point. And that worked pretty well in my opinion. Didn’t have everyone jumping over 2 miles too soon.

No. There are too many crazy people with guns. All it takes is one encounter with a nutjob and you have a serious problem.

Just look at the videos on youtube

I have rarely blocked traffic coming into a construction zone. While I see both sides of the argument, and both have their points, I just don't care.
I've gotten to the point in life where I feel like I'm surrounded by idiots most of the time. And I've learned that when you argue with one, or stoop to their level of thinking, you in fact, become an idiot as well. It's just not worth it. You'll never change the trucks and car's 'me first' mentality. Just let them go on about their miserable lives, enjoy the #### show and be as happy as you can!

No comment. What's the statute of limitations on blocking traffic? Asking for a friend.

I don’t think it’s very smart trying to herd traffic with a truck. What happens when someone hits you? Truckers have enough trouble with that trying to run careful and legally.

The professional move is to stop in the middle of the lane and heat up lunch in the microwave that way everyone has a chance to cool off and put things in perspective.

Then when lunch is ready and you filled half of an old juice jug everything is usually a little more clear ahead for a bit.

We should really get in touch with our emotional well being more often.

I love how people say "I'd zipper merge, but nobody else knows how to do it!" Just do it and don't worry about anybody else.
