I mean when I stop for a red light down by a certain C.P. and get off the power and go into the pilot for some Wendy's. I always have at least 1 trucker who wants to see the inside of the locomotive. And if I don't have a punk tattle tale for a conductor (see no one is allowed on it) I usually bring em on up and show them how things work, they are usually impressed at how I can get millions of pounds stopped on a grade, I tell them same way you get 80,000lbs stopped I just have more air and brakes. Then I always make a joke about how my horn is a button and I don't get to pull a chain like the old trains. Heck I even unloaded a guys trailer for him in record time once and he was like sorry man, I didnt think there was any trailer left on the track. I was like are you kidding, screw your trailer I asked him profusely if hes okay and to sit down and I can radio our railroad police dispatcher for an ambulance.
Anyhow other day I'm in the intermodal yard and one of the truckers says to me, how many trailers you gonna take off the road this trip, I was pist and my conductor who had the orders shouted 47. I got a thanks DICK maybe with your 6 figure engineer income I could put food on his familys plate. My first thought was I'm gonna go over and take care of this like men, truckers are a tough breed but so are us railroaders, but I opted for higher ground and got on my power and waited for a green. Only truck driver and I have come across 1000's in the yard or when I go into the pilot or other places, that ever said anything to me!!
Anyhow give it to me straight!!!
Do you guys really hate us?

the answer to your question my friend is a resounding NO ABSOLOUTLY NOT , why would we hate you for doing a job, most of that if not all comes from new drivers that havent a clue.
now a lot of us resent the fact that the railroad does take a lot of freight from us but the goverment does that not the guy running the train .
i dont think ny of us hate you my friend just a few that havent a clue as o what is going on.
take care my friend and just keep on keeping on. southernpride

As far as I'm concerned, trains can have all that Commiefornia freight. Trains can deal with all that crap, and I'll keep my truck in the midwest. That said, while I have no problem with trains other than the competition for freight, I do hate the way train companies treat freight. Of course, I hate sitting in a freight yard waiting all weekend for a trailer that was supposed to be in on Friday, but sat in Chicago until Monday. I could have driven to Chicago, picked up the trailer, and delivered the load myself by Monday! If a truck can do it, how are trains saving anybody any time? Furthermore, it was me the driver who took the hit at the reciever for the load being late!

Ya thats it, you got it after 15 years of RRing I decided it was time to toot my horn.
Oh yeah I'm here to slam trucks, #### you for brining containers to the yard, so I freakin have something to put on the #### train, #### them trucks for doing that. Oh and taking them out of the yard to the retailers, cause you know Wal mart is still working on the drive thru train tracks to each individual store.
Oh and BTW I hate trains to, there big, dirty, usually stink, have no radio and are uncomfortable to sit in for 16 hours.

I for 1 am fascinated by trains. One time in coca cola plant in atlanta georgia, the train was swapping out tanker cars and the? Conductor? And I were talking about railroad life. It seemed pretty neat. Then he asked me if I wanted to see the inside of the second engine, I thought that was pretty cool! I never knew those things actually had bathrooms in them. They are not much to look at and don't have a lot of creature comforts (no radio, uncomfortable seats, etc) but it was a neat experience for me. Getting to see how the other freight haulers work and hearing some of his stories was cool. Not to mention the pay sounds pretty #### good too. Too bad there are no rail jobs near where I live!
The Challenger, Ducks, Saddle Tramp and 1 other person Thank this. -
I feel for you there. We(train crew) have no control over that but I can tell you there a been a few times, but I will admit very few times maybe 5 in my 15 years that I was able to shove the crane tracks with road power to get a guys load to him so he can get the flock on the road. Yard master usually won't hear of a stunt like that, but this one was okay with it. -
Trains can't go to the places I go to on a regular basis....
They have their place..... -
Without trains JB Hunt would be out of business a long time ago...

I dont really care about trains, I just hate that one commercial. If that driver was really that POed about his company using trains he'd find one that doesn't. There are plenty of companies that do not put freight on trains, I've yet to see one GTS trailer on a train.
If someone doesn't like something it seems most of them want SOMEONE ELSE to do something about it. But good god they do something themselves no way. He could have just as easily quit and found a non-train company to 'express' his dislike, instead he wants you to quit because its YOUR fault HIS company puts freight on trains.
