So what? My 2013 pickup has Onstar that can shut down the pickup if they chose. I can shut it down from my iPhone. I can lock it, unlock it, remote start it, check all the tire pressures, etc, etc all from my iPhone, and do it from across the nation away from my pickup! I spooked the wife one day shortly after we bought it by sounding the horn on the pickup, from my iPhone, when I was 3 states away from the house! I can call Onstar and they can track the pickup if it is swiped. And sure, the government could do the same thing if they had a mind to do so. Why they would waste their time to do so, who knows. And even without Onstar, all vehicles with air bags have had event recording as part of their ECM function. Insurance, law enforcement, etc can check the event record and see what was going on before and during an incident that triggered the recording.

The same thing with an ELD. Unless you give someone the reason to be concerned about your vehicle, no one is paying any attention. I have gone over on 11 and 14 a few times, and no one has given a rip. Sure, it wasn't any more than about 15 minutes max, except one time that I went 2 hrs over 11 because of an unforeseen winter storm. Just made a note on the Elog and never heard a peep. After all, that is legal per the HOS. Every week I use the truck for personal conveyance... off duty driving.... and no one gives a rip. Where the truck is, when it is started, how much it moves may be recorded, but unless you give someone a reason to watch you, no one is.

And if anyone is serious about stealing a truck, or some other nefarious thing, all they have to do is cut any connection to the data bus from the ELD. Sure, maybe some day they will be by bluetooth or some other method and the truck cannot be started without first talking with the ELD, who knows. But as technology advances when it comes to vehicles, there will always be a way to get around it. Nothing changes.

I have a mcp50. Took 35 off and won't show my reset. Any advice? I called the company and they rebooted it but it still won't give me my 70. Thanks

My qualcomm has a major lag in it. When ever I change duty status or whatnot it seems like 5 to 10 seconds go by before it registers the change

    Any suggestions?

Yeah, that is common. You have to keep in mind, the Qualcomm boxes are not cutting edge technology. I often accuse Qualcomm of grabbing up a bunch of old Radio Shack Color Computers from the early 80's and using the parts to make their units. The things run on Windows CE, which never was a solid, reliable operating system and is now so antiquated as to be developed during the stone age compared to what is used in most modern computers, cell phones, tablets, etc. That accounts for the delays you notice. Windows CE is, and has been, a lousy operating system. The only reason it is still used by Qualcomm is that it costs almost nothing and is relegated to Freeware status and will link up with any Windows based computer. Qualcomm has so little cost into these units that they are raking it in with what they charge for them. Kinda hard to imagine that they still use hard drives in them when anyone can go down to a local store and pick up a 128GB micro SD card. Listen close sometime when you turn the truck key on and listen to the Qualcomm box.... you can hear the antiquated hard drive clicking away moving read/write heads across the disks. Feel like I am living in the twilight zone. Absolutely nothing I have nowadays... desktops, laptops, etc... have hard drives anymore. They are all solid state memory.

It is surprising Qualcomm units work at all. About once a month, I have to disconnect the power line from the control unit under my bunk to do a hard boot of the system because the unit on the dash goes into a chip cramp and locks up.

Question about an MCP50,,Is there a wire that must be powered at all times to allow unit to operate for 1 hour after engine shut down? If so,can a diagram be posted,,I am purchasing the unit from the company I'm leased to,,they installed it using the ECM diagnostic port plug,,,truck is a 1995 Pete with a 1994 3406e Cat motor

Mcp200 here I believe. Has the slide out keyboard and buttons on side by screen. I can't remember but what button combo do you press and hold to force unit into a reset? Mine lags badly. I know CE isn't windows 10 but it didn't use to lag this bad. I did clear out all unneeded messages but that didn't help.

Only way I have been able to pull its head out of its back side is to disconnect power to main box and let it sit for a few minutes. Then start everything back up and works fine.
