I couldn't find exactly where to post this, so I did it here. Anyway, for those that have a girlfriend, boyfriend, kid or spouse traveling with you what does that person do all day? Can they go online while moving? Can they watch TV while moving?

What do they do to pass all the time????

    Thanks.

I have had someone ride with me in the past, and they can do pretty much whatever they want to. TV, laptop, sleep, talk whatever they want. Why do you ask?

Computer has wireless access to the Internet, TV has DVDs also and in or near the cities, we have signal, Read, or sit and watch the road with me, When My Son rides, He can cook while I drive, that way I don't have to do it when I stop.

In order for the driver of a commercial motor vehicle to have a passenger in the vehicle that driver must have written permission from the motor carrier. Said permission must have the passenger name etc., and a definite time frame for this person to be in that truck (See 49 CFR part 392.60). Without the written permission the passenger is unauthorized and the driver may be cited for the non-compliance. There is also an exemption in the rule for emergency conditions i.e. if another driver is broken down another may give this driver a ride to the nearest telephone. The emergency exemption does not allow the other driver to ride for an extended period though.

Thanx for the useful(?) information but I think you should reread the original post in this thread.
When someone rides with me they either checkout the scenery or kickback in the sleeper-reading,watching movies or eating my groceries and hiding toys in my bed(darn kids)lol

Thanks for all your information. If you have satellite can you watch TV whenever? Can you have Tivo? I ask because I do plan to ride with my hubby someday. Thanks.

Well, if you wanna watch satellite tv while moving, you'll need an automatic tracking dish. (I used to work tech support for Dish Network) You can get one from Winegard, but they are real pricey!!! Other than that you need a regular dish and you pretty much have to park and point the dish at the appropriate satellite. I don't know about direct tv, but Dish you need at least the 119 and 110 satellites. (And 2 LNBs for the Dish or you'll be turning the dish everytime you go to a 110 channel) I've seen a few trucks with sat dishes and Winegard makes a pole that's great for trucks, you can raise it when you park in a truck stop and lower when you're driving. Thinking about doing that when I can afford it. Talk to Radio Shack, they sell a 311 rcvr for $99. As far as the DVR is concerned, don't go with TiVO, they're a rip off, get a Dish DVR like a 522 or 625 and you can buy an Archos portable and download programs from your dvr and play them on your tv in the truck. Another thing I plan on doing as well.

My grilfriend goes with me, she does bead work while on the road, which she sometimes sells at the truckstop. she keeps herself busy. By the way, I needed no written permission for her to be on the truck. merley the companys knowledge.

I agree that it is a company thing. Each one has their own policy. Schneider has one where they allow you to have a passenger after six months. Then for a fee, you can have a passenger with you. I sent in my paperwork and...I haven't gotten charged for it.

My wife rides with me on Saturday sometimes. It used to be quite a bit, now she stays home a bit more. If she does come with me however, she takes quite a bit of naps, lol. Or reads....or reads and then naps. It allows her to get out of town and we occasionally do some shopping when I finish my route. (one time I finished, and bobtailed to a Lane Bryant! ha!). Im weighing the option of getting a Sams Club membership. Then we could go shopping down at the end of my route.
