Do You Have Experience With An Eaton-Fuller Super 10?

The Kenworth I just purchased has a Super 10 transmission, which is five forward gears with a range selector. Prior to testing out the tractor I had never even heard of this transmission. When I read the ad, I just thought it was another name for a Road Ranger 10 speed. When I asked other drivers about it, very few had ever heard of one and none had driven one.
So I’m curious if there are any drivers here experienced with the transmission. If there are any things in particular I might need to be wary of or maybe you had a positive experience you’d like to share. So far I’ve only bobtailed with the tractor, but I really like the transmission. It’s something unique and seems to do a pretty good job. Thanks for your input.

Ok, but you need to tell me why you think/feel this way in order to be helpful.

 

If you take care of it and dont put some one in it that don't know how to shift it... Then its a pretty good transmission. One of the easiest shifting transmissions ive ever driven.

We have one at my work... No one likes it because it's been abused by people who didnt know how to shift it... and it shifts a little slow because of that. I how ever have no problem driving it. Split every hole and it will #### 'n' git.

 

I've loved the Super 10 since the first one i built. Fast shifting. Good friend has one in a 96 379 he bought new. 2.8 million miles, but he's easy on a truck.

Still a great underappreciated trans.

 

I drove a truck home that a friend of mine bought back in 2015 that had one. I didn’t mind it once I got my brain wired on how it worked. That’s about the biggest adjustment. I don’t see how it would be all that much different once you get used to it. I do remember he put the splitter on a switch on the dash so he just had a bare stick coming up out of the floor. Looked cool but then you have to reach for the dash all the time.

Super 10 was the one where you just had a 5 speed and split each gear?

 

Yes, range shifted as you crossed the shift pattern, so all you do is split.

 

Super 10 you flip the air splitter in every lever position unlike the 9 or 10 where you move the gear lever through the first 4-5 holes, the move the splitter, then move lever through 4-5 high range lever positions. It feels complicated for the first day or two. After about 5 days downshifting feels natural. There are YouTube videos on Super 10. Our fleet was 75% 10 speed & 25% Super 10. It's hard to switch from one to the other for about a day. You cut down throwing the stick but flip the splitter many more tines.

 

I have a couple at the yard I manage, nothing wrong with them. One is just a bit slow splitting the first couple miles out the driveway in the morning, rest of the day no problems, even changed the transmission oil, didn’t help, but it’s not a big deal. I like ‘em.
