When we started driving team in the USA after 2 years dedicated run in Canada we started collected those ugly touristy magnets with the state names on them for my in-law's fridge.

For ourselves, whenever we have some time we rent a car and try to find a theme park, aquarium, zoo, MLB/NHL/NBA/NFL game and have some of the ticket stubs and pamphlets to remember.

Barring more suitable options, we have found a cheap motel with truck parking, ordered wings'n'beer and hit up a tattoo parlour at 1am. I was in the Royal Canadian Navy for almost a decade before this gig and this sort of thing feels natural.

Started collecting CAT scale cards for my 3 yr old grandson but they don't say anything about where I've been. A couple of weeks ago I started picking up small snowglobes with the state's name on them. They're less than 10 bucks and he likes shaking them.

I know who collects shower vouchers. Slicked back hair sweat suit gold chained and adidas flip flop wearers.

Those might be worth something back at motherland.

It must be a very poor quality of life when so much of it is consumed with xenophobia...

When every thought inevitably leads back to stereotypes and obsession with voicing disdain for others.

"What did you buy your nephew at the truck stop?"
    - I'll tell you why I didn't buy him - socialism.

    Xenophobia ≠ humour
    Racism ≠ humour
    Sexism ≠ humour
    Homophobia ≠ humour

    Hope this helps.

you know that stereotypes happen because that is how the most people there act
stereotypes are not just dreamed up out of thin air
the young italian crowd in seaside heights didn't become guidos
when the stupid reality show appeared
provincetown mass didn't become a safe haven for all the boy like boy types because of homophobia in the rest of mass

Therefore.... Pigeonholing entire groups of millions of people with insults becomes funny?

Sorry, but I don't buy it. I don't think thinly veiled racism is funny simply because some stereotypes were rooted in truth decades or centuries ago.

When you see anti-Anerican sentiment in the form of flag burning on the news do you usually have a good chuckle and remind your family that many decades of aggressive American imperialism has fostered foment and disgust for your way of life, and have a little laugh because those stereotypes are rooted in historical fact?

It's a rhetorical question, I don't actually expect it to spur to action any meaningful introspection on your part: I just wanted to put it out there.

    Have a nice evening.
