Sometimes I see other drivers do this, usually during long loading or unloading times.
Is it something essential I should be doing, or are most drivers doing it to kill time?
Do you pry rocks from out of your tire treads?

It helps limit stone drilling.
JReding Thanks this. -
Probably doesn't hurt, but mostly an OCD thing.

Occasionally.
I don't go crazy with it. If there is one close to the top (of the tire) and I'm bored (usually waiting at Shipper/Receiver).
I'm sure it helps to some degree but that's only like 10% of the reason I do it.
Just pickup more anyway.Last edited: Sep 2, 2016

I do it. Mostly when I'm killing time. Steers only though.

I do it. I was bored once back when we drove a different truck every day. A few were so lodged in that when I removed them the metal belt showed. Now I do it every few days while checking tire pressure (thumping with a hammer) and I'm not in a huge hurry. Also I just read a new OOS criteria is something lodged between the tires (I know, would have to be a dang big rock) so while one is looking might as well pop a few rocks out. It doesn't have to be 100%, but if you get a few every few days none will get lodged in enough to wear the rubber down to the belt.
