Seriously??? Most pay around $0.30 a mile to newbies and it goes up from there. Very few make more than $0.35 cents a mile AROUND HERE (the Maritimes) without experience.
With experience, you go up to about a max of $0.46 a mile.
Do you really make #### for money newbie?

i started out with a company making 27cpm 17 years ago. not bad back then. sad to see companies now days still paying that or close to it and even worse yet less. -
The only "good" thing about it is you don't have the $300 a week with the trainers for weeks/months here in Canada that I hear about in the USA. Even if you're out with a trainer, you're usually paid at least $0.28 cents a mile PLUS safety bonus, sometimes fuel bonus, etc.
Not great but not terrible. And when you work 12 hours a day five days a week, you make decent money compared to those who earn about the same but only work 40 hours a week (non-truckers). -
Also I think this is one of those jobs you not only do just for the money.
Kinda like being a cop or something, you really have to just love doing the job.
Hell if a person wants to make money down here in SE Texas they're paying $25.00 p/h just for construction helpers.
Journeymen get paid like $40.00 p/h here.
Been there done that though, you really get sick of the politics, working with #########,suckasses the heat in Augustus etc.,etc.
I have noticed one thing though,I've been in construction for about 20 years, and I can't ever remember anybody saying they just love their job.
On the other hand I hear a lot of drivers say it though.
A doctor told me one time he seen a lot of older men pass away in his hospital, towards the end they would always say I wished I would've done this or that, but he never heard one say I wished I'd made more money or work more overtime.
Anyway my 2 cents. -

There you go. Now you've got it. You should do what makes you happy. And then the next, and then the next.
If you do it (anything) for the money you lost. -
Sorry, but my dear old Uncle Sammy kept me in genteel poverty for 20 years working for him. Now, I do it for the money. I may enjoy my job, (and I do!) but the money is a big factor in doing it. I made about 24k a year by the time I retired as a sailor. This year the income clocks in well over the 76,000 dollar mark when you figure in the retirement check and the driving job.
I like the money part of it. If I want to buy something, I don't have to budget for it now with scrimping and saving, I just go ahead and buy it.
I do it for the money, and I also win. -
#### Burky i didn't picture you retirement age. but i also didn't know you spent time playing pirate for uncle sam. lol
i watched pirates of the carribean 1 & 2 today for like the ump-tenth time.dinger Thanks this. -
Turning the big 50 this year, and it will make 11 I have been retired. The advantage to the retirement is that for the last 10+ yars, Unk has been kicking in about 14k a year in additional income. It gives you a lot of options when you don't have to live paycheck to paycheck. And everything is paid for, home, vehicles, farm, and all farm equipment, so all I have is the monthly bills for heat and light, phones, etc...
-
that's good. it really helps out alot when you don't have the major bills and everything is payed off. my goal in '08 is become debt free.

If you aren't in the trucking business for the money, Please get out and stop ruining things for those of us that consider trucking to be a business
We really don't need any more "see the country" "office with a view" lifestyle truckers cutting the rates worse than they already are.
